At present the performers signed up so far are:

"Cerveny, Kathleen"
"Gage, Joshua"
"Howe, Meagen"
"Kanieski, George"
"Landis, Geoff"
"Matthews, Renee"
"Rader, Bennett"
"Turzillo, Mary"
"Weiss, Loren"

If you're interested in participating, this would be a very good time to say so, but please
get your email to me (marcus at designerglass.com) or Peggy Spaeth
(pspaeth at heightsarts.org) as soon as possible so we can put you on the list.

Here's how this Haiku Death Match works: two haiku readers on stage each read
between a haiku, alternately, to the audience. Then the audience votes to award points
to each of the two poets. Then each poet reads one more haiku. The back-and-forth of
the two poets responding to each others' haiku, and the feedback from the audience
about what it likes, generates a good bit of interest from all concerned. Of course we
all know it's just a game, that the points don't matter, and it's all just in fun.

Each haiku reader who gets on the participant list will read at least 11-15 haiku,
because that's how many will be required in the first round. The winner will have to
participate in 3-5 rounds, depending on how many participants there are, so the winner
will read 33 - 55 haiku out loud. I suggest that you bring 75-100 haiku with you, if you're
a participant (if you're going to participate as audience, bring your best heckles, hoots,
and hollers), so you have a wide range of your work to choose from as you respond to
the other poet and the audience.

At the end of each round, the poet with more points goes on to the next round. You
may re-use your haiku, you may use senryu, you may use just short 17-syllable
poems, you may interpret the rules to include nearly any very short poem. But be
warned -- the audience usually punishes participants whose offering doesn't sound too
much like what the audience expects a haiku to sound like by voting him or her fewer
points.

You'll probably want to organize your haiku for yourself by subject or key words or both
so you can find them easily and quickly in the context of having to respond to someone
else's haiku on stage.

There is NO FEE to participate in the Haiku Death Match, or to enjoy the HDM show in
the audience -- which means not only do you not get paid, you don't have to pay to get
in.
