Christmas Eve, 1910: The penal colony in Cayenne, French Guiana. 
It is 104 degrees in the shade and convicts Josephine, Jules, and Alfred
have been given a work project - to repair the roof of the general store,
run by the Ducotel family. Kindly, scatter-brained Felix Ducotel, the
manager of the store (which belongs to his cousin Mauvais), has made a mess
of running it. His heartless cousin is now on her way from France to inspect
Felix's accounts, preparatory to kicking Felix and his family out of their
home. She brings along her shallow nephew Paul with a view to ending the
engagement between him and Felix's daughter Marie-Louise. Merry Christmas. 
The three convicts, from their perch on the roof, overhear all of the
Ducotels' problems and cast themselves as angels to the hapless family.
Employing their own peculiar methods, the three set about making things
right, taking care of business and solving the problems in a most unusual
manner, with comical results.
This is the stage version of the Humphrey Bogart/Peter Ustinov/Aldo Ray
movie, "We're No Angels."
