The CenterStage Theater Department at Walsh Jesuit High School
presents its Fall dramatic production of Thornton Wilder’s “The
Matchmaker,” November 13th at 7:00PM, November 14th and 15th at
7:30PM, and matinee performances November 15th and 16th at 2:00PM in
the school’s newly renovated Theatre, located at 4550 Wyoga Lake Road,
in Cuyahoga Falls. There will be a preview performance on November
11th at 7PM.
“The Matchmaker” was made into a film by Paramount
Pictures in 1958, starring Shirley Booth as Dolly Levi, Anthony
Perkins as Cornelius, and Shirley MacLaine as Irene Molloy. John
Michael Hayes wrote the adaptation, which was directed by Joseph
Anthony.
In 1963, this play was adapted as a Broadway musical,
“Hello, Dolly!,” with a book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics
by Jerry Herman. Carol Channing played Dolly, in a career defining
performance. Hello, Dolly! ran on Broadway for 2,844 performances. It
became a film directed by Gene Kelly, and starred Barbra Streisand,
Walter Matthau, Michael Crawford, Tommy Tune, Fritz Feld, and Louis
Armstrong, whose recording of the title tune was a #1 hit in the
mid-1960s.
Cast as Horace Vandergelder is Luke Hearty of Bedford, and Elise
Hapanowicz from Cleveland Heights plays Dolly. The comedy farce also
includes some great supporting roles such as Cornelius Hackl, played
by Scott Salomone of Cuyahoga Falls, and Barnaby Tucker, played by
Andrew Burge of Akron.
Ryan Bellmore of Brecksville plays Ambrose Kemper, who wants to marry
Ermengarde, played by Lauren Cole also of Cuyahoga Falls. Irene
Malloy is played by Rachel Scarponi of Akron and Minnie Fay is
performed by Jenna Shumiloff of Streetsboro. Malachi Stack is played
by Jay Swedyk of Hinckley. The show will also include a gypsy
violinist played by Anita Salley of Stow, who will also lead a female
barbershop quintet.
Rounding out the cast is Leanna Lostoski of Kent, Mary Smith of Canal
Fulton, Alex Coundourides of Brunswick, Vince Matia of Medina, Lucas
Casserlie of Doylestown, Angela Jozsa, Pat McShane, and Haley McShane
of Stow, Brittney Sidoti of Bedford, Jennifer Mitchkash of Sagamore
Hills, Victoria Tersigni and Katie Whalen of Akron.
Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and Senior
Citizens groups. Senior group discounts are also available as well as
