The Xavier University Schola Cantorumprovides music for the many liturgical events that take place on the Xavier University campus while providing students with foundational experience in liturgy. In addition to maintaining a rigorous schedule of services that outlines the liturgical year, each of the members holds a position of leadership in Xavier University’s music ministry. The Schola Cantorum’s repertoire is intentionally eclectic, and covers a range of sacred music idioms in a variety of languages, from the Renaissance to classical choral repertoire and works from the late 20th century.

Scot Buzza, Director of Liturgical Music at Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio), has had an international performing career over the past two decades that includes solo appearances with orchestras in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and Venezuela. In 1987 he was appointed principal violist of the Tokyo Philharmonic, and in 1990 he became soloist-principal violist of the Chamber Orchestra of Barcelona, Spain. As a chamber musician Mr. Buzza has performed world wide, and his recitals have been broadcast on Radio France, PBS, Radio Amsterdam, Tokyo NHK and Radio Catalunya (Spain). In the United States he has performed regularly with both the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Buzza is a graduate of Yale University, where he held simultaneous fellowships in both the School of Music and the Department of Slavic Languages and Linguistics. He is currently on the faculty of the Department of Music at Northern Kentucky University, and teaches the Sacred Music curriculum at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Mr. Buzza is Director of Liturgical Music at Xavier University, where he founded and directs three choral ensembles: the Xavier University Schola Cantorum, Harmonia Sacra Xaveriana, and the 10pm Choir.
