Artist/Director in Residence Position
Chestnut Elementary PTA is searching for a qualified candidate to fill
its temporary Artist/Director in Residence position for the school year
2008-09. This person will be responsible for directing and staging a
bi-lingual English/Spanish production of "The Wizard of Oz" in
conjunction with the Chestnut Elementary PTA. All work will be done as
an after-school program.
You will share/have the following responsibilities:
1)      Cast the show with students of Chestnut Elementary School,
including scheduling and holding auditions.
2)      Design and oversee construction of set, costume design,
lighting, sound and music within constraints of limited budget and
volunteer workforce
3)      Assist in planning and overseeing rehearsals
4)      Guide and direct student actors and parent/community volunteers
Proposed schedule is as follows:
January 2009:                           Start auditions for play parts,
select actors/actresses for roles
February - March 2009:           Rehearsals, construction
April 2009:                               Stage play (two performances,
one day and one evening)
The position will report to the Chestnut PTA and be subject to the
school's background check policy and following a Code of Conduct. Pay is
a $1,000 stipend, to be made in quarterly payments. Experience in live
theatre and working with children is desired. Knowledge of Spanish is a
plus.
