Originally written for BBC television, Talking Heads 2 has since been
performed in live theater and televised on PBS' Masterpiece Theater.
Bennett's "talking heads" are anything but boring or monotonous. The
characters he portrays in this series of thought- provoking monologues
represent a menagerie of repressed souls. Although the subjects of
these monologues are very different, the underlying feelings of
loneliness, sadness and regret are very much the same for the characters
that Bennett portrays with witty candor.

For this production, the Beck Center welcomes back the first couple of
Cleveland theater, Dorothy and Dr. Reuben Silver, who bring their
talents to the Beck stage once again as they present new pieces from
Bennett's repertoire in this compelling night of theater. The Silvers
performed in Beck's 2003 production of the original Talking Heads. This
production, co-directed by Dr. Reuben Silver and Curt Arnold, focuses on
two very different monologues from the series - Playing Sandwiches,
featuring Robert Hawkes as Wilfred, a middle-aged parks maintenance
worker with a secret past and Waiting for the Telegram, featuring
Dorothy Silver as Violet, an aged rest home resident who has recently
suffered a stroke.

Tickets are $28 for adults, $25 for seniors (65 and older), and $17 for
students (22 and under with ID). Group discounts are available for
parties of 13 or more. For group sales, contact Linda Hefner at ext.

"Dorothy Silver...a tour-de-force performance...provocative monologues
by Alan Bennett...Robert Hawkes, a respected veteran of Cleveland
stages...Taken by itself, 'Playing Sandwiches' is an unnerving
experience...Silver inhabits this heart-rending role with every fiber of
her upper body and face...remarkable actress...will live forever with
all who see 'Talking Heads2'."

Tony Brown, Plain Dealer

"Masterful acting...The duo are superb in this production...Robert
Hawkes...an excellent performance...Dorothy Silver completely
captivates...Silver doesn't act Violet, she is Violet...one of those
special evenings of theater...This is a must see!"

Roy Berko, The Times

"Silver is, at her best, the quintessence of her craft...a superb tour
de force...On vivid display is Silver's unique intensity...Robert Hawkes
has his own time in the spotlight...smartly directed...great stories and
equally great storytellers. Talking Heads 2 is endowed with both."

Keith Joseph, Cleveland Scene

"Talking Heads 2...two talented local actors have signed on...Silver
sparkles in a humorous and poignant role...Both Hawkes and Silver
succeed because they come off as natural storytellers...strong
performances."

Brian Thornton, Spangle Magazine

"Talking Heads 2...small one-act treasures...an interesting evening of
theater...tour de force by Dorothy Silver...plays Bennett's prose like
the unsurpassed pro she is...the excellent actor, Robert Hawkes...it's
worth it all to see Dorothy Silver, once again at her finest in a role
that Alan Bennett was completely unaware that he had written just for
her."

Christine Howey, Rave and Pan

"'Playing Sandwiches,' sensitively directed...The challenge for Hawkes
is to humanize a character...sympathetic portrait...Silver truly becomes
the frail but feisty nonagenarian...The intimate Studio Theater provides
the perfect milieu for storytelling."
