*SEEKING TALENTED STUDENTS FROM THE NORTHEAST OHIO REGION TO PARTICIPATE IN
THE VOICE AND OPERATIC INSTITUTE FOR SINGERS AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY.

Auditions will be held Monday January 26, 2009.
Lessons and classes will begin Saturday January 31, 2009.

For those not familiar with our program, our purpose is to provide both
healthy vocal instruction and valuable stage training to talented students
from the Northeast Ohio region. Students accepted into this program will be
given 14 private voice lessons and studio classes. They will also sing
leading roles in scenes from musical theater, operetta and opera in a staged
scenes production. Students will also be given the opportunity to perform in
masterclasses with sought after voice teachers, and will perform in a formal
recital at the end of the semester.

The tuition for this program is $470. This breaks down as follows: $20 per
private voice lesson (14 lesson), $45 voice class fee (14 classes), $100
scenes production fee, and $45 accompanist fee.

**VOIS is open to any young performers in grades 7 to 12, but acceptance is
on an audition-only basis as there are limited spaces available.

*We are very pleased to announce that our scenes director for the Spring
2009 institute will be mezzo-soprano Fenlon Lamb. Often sought after as  a
singer, stage director, and acting coach, we are very fortunate to have her
work with our students.

*Fenlon Lamb, Biography:

*American mezzo-soprano *Fenlon Lamb* consistently garners critical acclaim
for her "*dynamic, rich vocal sound*" and "*polished acting abilities*." As
a "*deliciously vulnerable*" Dorabella *COSÌ FAN TUTTE* at Opera Santa
Barbara, Ms. Lamb was praised for a "*charismatic characterization [both]
flirtatious and impulsive*." For her role debut of Rosina *BARBIERE DI
SIVIGLIA* with Sacramento Opera, the critic raved: "*…every inch the saucy
rebel [who] navigated the highly ornamented passages with creamy ease.*" The
Baltimore Sun applauded her *AGRIPPINA*: "*In the title role, Fenlon Lamb
revealed a bright, flexible voice, ever-brilliant phrasing and theatrical
flourish*."
This season Ms. Lamb made her Seattle Opera debut as Enrichetta *I
PURITANI*as well as her company and role debut with Berkshire Opera
singing
Marcellina *LE NOZZE DI FIGARO*. She also returned to the Bar Harbor Music
Festival as *CARMEN*. As a soloist with *Singers Beyond Borders*, she was
featured in benefit concerts throughout Asia including Shanghai, Hong Kong,
Manila and Singapore. In 2009, Ms. Lamb will sing Meg Page *FALSTAFF* and
Zerlina *DON GIOVANNI* with Opera Cleveland. She also joins the Canton
Symphony Orchestra as Suzuki in *MADAMA BUTTERFLY* and the Bay Atlantic
Symphony for a performance of DeFalla's *EL AMOR BRUJO*.

Recently, she returned to Sacramento Opera for Mrs. Grose *TURN of the SCREW
*. During the 2006/2007 season, Ms. Lamb portrayed the title role of *CARMEN
* for both the Mississippi and Granite State Opera companies. For the latter
performance, Opera Online described her as a singer "*gifted with a
wonderful, resonant voice that packs plenty of punch in all the right places
in the score*." Other recent engagements include Maddalena *RIGOLETTO* with
Opera Vivente, Flora *LA TRAVIATA* at Opera Grand Rapids, and Stephano *ROMÉO
ET JULIETTE* for Opera Cleveland. The Akron Beacon Journal said of this
pants role portrayal: "*Fenlon Lamb stood out with her resonant tone and
excellent French."*

Ms. Lamb debuted with the *Cleveland Orchestra* as Angelina *LA CENERENTOLA*.
Many highly praised performances followed. In the title role of
*IOLANTHE*for Cleveland Opera she sang with "
*fetching dignity and vocal allure*," while she brought *"dry wit and
knowing understatement"* to Ilona *SHE LOVES ME* with Lyric Opera Cleveland.
She also sang the Wife "*abounding with sympathy*" for the world premier *
COME TO ME IN DREAMS* with baritone Sanford Sylvan. She has sung Beggar
Woman *SWEENEY TODD* for both the Toledo and Cleveland Opera Companies.
Opera News took notice, saying: "*Fenlon Lamb was a moving and convincing
Beggar Woman*."

Concert appearances have included *BEETHOVEN MASS IN C* with Hartford
Symphony and *BEETHOVEN 9th SYMPHONY* with both the Toledo and Akron
Symphonies. Additionally, Ms. Lamb has sung the alto solos in *MOZART MASS in
C MINOR* for Cleveland Choral Arts, *HANDEL MESSIAH* with Loyola Symphony,
and *MOZART REQUIEM* with Santa Cruz Symphony.

Ms. Lamb received her training through several of the finest apprentice
programs in the United States. At the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program she
covered the Third Maid *ELEKTRA* and Dryade *ARIADNE AUF NAXOS* and as a
member of the Seattle Opera Young Artist Program she sang Dorabella *COSÌ FAN
TUTTE* and Zerlina *DON GIOVANNI*. As a Baltimore Opera Studio Artist, she
performed such roles as Larina *EUGENE ONEGIN*, and Countess de Coigny *
ANDREA CHÉNIER*. Of her performance in the latter The Washington Post wrote,
"*Lovely mezzo, Fenlon Lamb, sang the self-centered Contessa to perfection."
* Ms. Lamb is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music (MM-Opera
Performance) and University of California at Santa Cruz (BA-Music) where she
performed the roles of Cherubino *LE NOZZE DI FIGARO*, Meg Page *FALSTAFF*,
Dido *DIDO AND AENEAS*, Idamante *IDOMENEO* and Mrs. Grose *TURN OF THE
SCREW*.
