[NEohioPAL] Keep Government out of the Arts

Wow, this is such a complicated issue....the stats that Noah provided are mindblowing.

The fact that art is an industry is often overlooked.  The creative factor is essential in every other industry in this country, does that count for something?

Art is more than just producing your favorite plays continually, the impacts can be so far reaching, arts in education is an example of that.

For those of us who have a targeted audience who may not have the resources to support or organizations, but who NEED our services- i.e., kids who really need intervention and activities that build them up in a neighborhood/community that does the opposite, kids who have parents that have to work to barely make it, barely surviving and can't afford to pay for, or don't have time to go to artistic programs that can help fill in the gap that families used to fill, parents whose only options to deal with all that energy that their children have is to let them be put on ridilin and other drugs to calm them down and don't have the transportation to take their children to the great arts centers that offer great classes that will give them a creative outlet.

For those of us, we are glad to see that there are options.

Business is business, if yours is so left field, then don't apply for government funding, there are many aspects of society that don't need or want government intervention or observance, and their clientele keep them alive and thriving...but for those who are trying to use their arts to change/save lives, this would be a blessing.

Oh, please ... Do you really believe gov't funding would come with no
strings attached? Or perhaps that certain "right thinking" concepts
will get a little extra funding, and that "wrong thinking" will not be
funded aggressively? Do we really want to give politicians that much power?

You praise Britain, where political correctness has banned teaching about the
Holocaust in some schools? Hard to imagine a production of "Schindler's
List" getting funded ... How about a play critical of Hammas?
How about cartoons depicting the prophet? Is that art? Do we want politicians
to decide?

I find it disturbing to see how many artists equate a lack of funding with
censorship. Any time one artist "deserves" funding from the gov't,
you open the door to one artist deserving it MORE than another. Be careful what
you wish for! "Who pays the piper calls the tune" is still true.
