'Intimate Apparel' by Lynn Nottage

Next John L. Dietz Production at Weathervane Playhouse

Winner of five national awards for Best Play!

Esther, an African-American seamstress in turn-of-the-century New York, makes an uncommon living for herself creating exquisite lingerie for wealthy socialites and ladies of the brothel alike. Plain and unsophisticated, she dreams of a better life and of finding a husband. As her long-distance correspondence with a laborer working on the great Panama Canal grows more and more intimate, Esther finds herself turning away from her old life for the dangerous love of a man she has never met. This acclaimed new drama tells the story of one woman's passion to break free and be herself in a society where she cannot quite fit into the set patterns that are stitched for African-American women. See Intimate Apparel ~ February 26 - March 14, 2009.

Intimate Apparel is presented in Weathervane's John L. Dietz Theater, an intimate 48-seat "black box" theater. The Dietz Theater's intimate configurations make it ideal for plays and musicals that are not suited, for either artistic or financial reasons, to the Playhouse's 246-seat Mainstage.

Intimate Apparel is presented by a generous grant from Margaret J. Dietz.

The production contains adult language and mature themes.
