New Kids on the Block

For toddlers AND their parents! Students, along with a parent or guardian, will work on theatrical fundamentals such as storytelling, emotional expression, creative movement, musical awareness, and vocal exploration.

This class is taught in the style of a "mommy-and-me" class. Students will use their imaginations in a variety of storytelling activities such as crafts, puppetry, music and movement exploration, dramatic play and creative invention. These exercises provide a foundation for theatrical skills such as understanding story elements, character development, creative movement, vocal exploration, and improvisation. Students will also actively engage in creating elements of technical theatre such as costumes, props, make-up, or scene design. This course is designed to be repeated.

Acting I ~ Places, Please!

Students will focus on theatrical fundaments including stage directions, movement for the stage, introduction to vocal production and emotional expression, developing awareness of technical theatre, and understanding theatre as an art form.

Students in Acting I will gain knowledge and skills that will serve as a foundation for future theatrical endeavors. Skills include stage directions, movement for the stage, vocal technique, emotional expression, and improvisation. Students will also discuss practical aspects of theatre such as audience etiquette and elements of technical theatre. Students discuss the art of theatre & storytelling and compare the art form to real life. Students will have the opportunity to apply their skills by rehearsing and presenting a class performance. Students will receive constructive feedback for their work. This course is designed to be repeated.

Students will work on theatrical fundaments and focus on character development, improvisation exercises, movement for the stage, vocal production, auditioning and theatrical processes.

Students in Acting II will discuss and develop skills in practical theatre aspects such as character development, emotional expression, improvisation, movement for the stage, vocal technique, auditioning and rehearsal processes. They will be introduced to some aspects of technical theatre such as: costumes, props, make-up, lighting, and scene design. Students will compare and contrast aspects of theatre and other art forms. Students will have the opportunity to apply their skills by rehearsing and presenting a class performance. Students will receive constructive feedback for their work. This course is designed to work with each student at their own level. This course is designed to be repeated.

Acting III ~ Time Travelers

Students will work on theatrical fundaments and theatrical process and focus on character development, movement for the stage, vocal production & auditioning. This class will have an additional focus on understanding, performing, and evaluating drama from a specific time period.

Students in Acting III will enhance performance skills by working on fundamentals such as character development, movement for the stage, vocal technique, auditioning & theatrical process; while gaining a deeper understanding of drama in relation to history and culture. Students will work on a theatrical presentation from a specific time period and learn fun and interesting facts on a historical time period. Students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills by rehearsing and presenting a final performance. Students will receive constructive feedback for their work. This course is designed to work with each student at their own level. This course is designed to be repeated.

Acting IV ~ Actor's Studio
Ages 13 ~ 18
10 classes, Saturdays NOON to 1:30 pm

Students will work on fundamentals such as vocal production, movement for the stage, character development, improvisation and auditioning; and focus on advanced acting techniques such as character choices, emotional honesty, transitioning and on-stage relationships through scene work and monologue presentation.

Students in Acting IV will enhance performance skills by developing advanced performance techniques. Each student will work at their own pace. Acting skills include vocal technique, movement for the stage, character development, improvisation skills, and auditioning technique. Advanced students will focus on advanced acting techniques such as character choices, emotional honesty, transitioning and on-stage relationships. Students will develop these skills through scene study and monologues. Furthermore, students will compare theatre to other art forms and disciplines outside of the arts. Students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills by rehearsing and presenting a final performance. Students will receive constructive feedback for their work. This course is designed to work with each student at their own level. This course is designed to be repeated.


Musical Theater I
Ages 5 ~ 8
10 classes, Saturdays 9:15 am to 10:15 am

Students will work on the fundamentals of musical theater: acting, singing, and choreographed movement; and focus on stage directions, character development, improvisation exercises, vocal technique, musical listening skills, music reading skills, and choreographed movement.

Students in Musical Theater I will build skills in three areas of musical theater: acting, singing and dancing. They will be introduced to practical theatre aspects such as auditioning and rehearsal process, audience etiquette, theatre vocabulary, stage directions, character development, singing technique, reading music and choreographed movement. Students will compare and contrast aspects of Musical Theatre Performance with other theatrical forms. Students will have the opportunity to apply these skills by working on musical numbers consisting of acting, singing and choreographed movement. Students will receive constructive feedback for their work. This course is designed to be repeated.

Musical Theater II
Ages 9 ~ 13

Students will study all three aspects of Musical Theatre; singing, dancing and acting. In singing, focus will be on proper breathing, pitch, dynamics and emotional expression. At least one piece from the music theatre genre will be studied and memorized for the student to use in auditions. There are opportunities for solo work as well as ensemble. In dance, emphasis will be placed on warming up to avoid injuries, learning basic musical theatre steps, staying with the beat and working on combinations and choreography which will also helpful in the audition process. More advanced dancers have the opportunity to do more difficult moves. Acting involves the study of monologues, scenes, improvisation, audition techniques and theatre games. Students will have the opportunity to apply their skills by rehearsing and presenting a class performance. This class is designed to work with each student at their own level. This class is designed to be repeated. This course is designed to be repeated.

Weathervane Community Playhouse offers Home School classes during the day by request for groups of SIX students or more. Classes offered include any class offered in our education brochure. We can also develop a class around your desired theater topic. Class scheduling is flexible. Class cost per student is $100.00, for 10 class hours taught.
