The Shaker Heights High School Theatre Arts Department proudly presents the Spring Ensemble Show.

The Senior Ensemble will be joined by the Junior and Advanced Ensembles on the Shaker Heights High School stage in the newly renovated and restored Large Auditorium to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Ensemble Program. The production, directed by alumnus Erik Johnson '98, is one of the central offerings of the Theatre Arts Department's daily classes. This year's performance will include a musical tribute to Buddy Holly, poetry and the spoken word, and original movement and dance pieces created by students from workshops with guest artists and alumni.

Staff, Guest Artists, and

Alumni Artistic Development

Shaker Theatre Students are fortunate to have two full time staff members and a wide range of professionals to support their work. Along with Ensemble Program Director Erik Johnson, Department Chair and Junior Ensemble co-instructor Christine McBurney continues to enhance the Ensemble's work. Long time associate artist Wendy Lynne and retired program founder James Thornton return to re-imagine and recreate a movement piece from last year's performance with original music composed by Shaker High School staff member and theatre parent Bruce Jennings. Returning guest artist Matthew Thornton '92 has developed a repertoire with the ensemble through a workshop series. Matt is co-founder of Agua Dulce Dance Theater and has performed with Pilobolus Dance Theater and Contemporary Motions. Production staff includes costumer Megan Pitcher of MegLouise Dance, local poet Katie Daley and staff member Joel Rathbone '95 as Stage Manager. Our Technical Director and Lighting Designer Chuck Tisdale returns along with longtime Sound Designer Corby Grubb.

Ensemble in the Community

The Senior Acting Ensemble has reached out to the community this year, adding five touring performances to the Theatre Arts Department season. These performance opportunities included a performance at Sunrise Assisted Living Center, Jon Leiken's "A Concert for Cleveland's Future" in the newly restored Hanna Theater downtown, a performance and workshop at Onaway Elementary School, as well as annual performances at A Night for the Red and White and Shaker Middle School. The Ensemble continues its outreach to the community at the Senior Adult Preview on Wednesday, April 29th at 2:00 p.m.

Named a center of excellence by the National Council of Teachers of English, Shaker Theatre includes 8 daily classes and a production season including four mainstage performances and four "showcase" performances and events.

Performances of the Spring Ensemble Show are at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 30th, Friday May 1st, and Saturday May 2nd, and the Senior Adult Preview is at 2:00 pm Wednesday April 29th at the Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium (15911 Aldersyde Dr).
