ROBERT DAY ORGAN RECITAL Sunday, April 26, 2009 3:00 p.m.

Arts in the Cathedral is pleased to present Robert Day, Organist at the Church Of The Saviour in Cleveland Heights, in an organ recital at the church this Sunday, April 26, at 3:00 pm.

Entitled Bob Day and Friends, this free program features an appealing selection of works for solo organ as well as collaborations with other exceptional instrumentalists. Mr. Day’s solo repertoire will include Max Reger’s Passion, Theodore Dubois’ Toccata, and Donald Busarow’s Processional on Lift High the Cross.

In addition Mr. Day will collaborate with Cleveland Orchestra violist Lisa Boyko in performing two pieces by Rebecca Clarke: I'll Bid My Heart Be Still, based on an Old Scottish Border Melody, and Passacaglia, based on an Old English tune attributed to Thomas Tallis. Pianist R. Brooke Baker will join Mr. Day for Mark Hayes’ lovely piano and organ arrangement of Be Thou My Vision and trumpeter Erik Hasselquist will also appear on the recital in Alan Hovhaness’ Prayer of St. Gregory for trumpet and organ. The program will be completed by Betty Meyers joining Mr. Day in a stunning organ duet: Wir danken dir, Gott wir danken dir ("We thank thee God, We thank thee"), from Bach’s Cantata No. 29.

A native Clevelander, Mr. Day holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Otterbein College and a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from The Ohio State University. He is recently retired from 30 years of public school teaching in choral music, but still serves as Organist at The Church of The Saviour in Cleveland Heights. Mr. Day has also served as musical director for numerous productions in and around the Cleveland area and is well-known as a talented accompanist.

Before and after the recital, you are invited to visit the church parlor to view a mixed media art show entitled All Things Bright and Beautiful. There will also be a reception in the same space following the afternoon’s concert.

Church of the Saviour is located at 2537 Lee Road in Cleveland Heights, one block north of Fairmount Blvd. The church has plenty of free parking and is handicapped-accessible. For more information please call the church at 216-321-8880 or visit the church website at www.chsaviour.org.
