* **The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival's The Winter's Tale Opensin Tremont
This Weekend*

* *

*The Winter's Tale, the second show of the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival's
12th season of FREE Shakespearean theater, opens on Friday, June 26th at
7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 27th at 7:00 p.m. at Lincoln Park, in the heart
of Tremont.  *

*The Winter's Tale, one of Shakespeare’s most complex pieces, is a brilliant
compromise between tragedy and comedy. The play presents the story of a
picture-perfect family, torn to shreds by inner demons, vices, and
tragedies. While this may seem to be an odd foundation on which to build an
uproariously broad comedy, Artistic Director Tyson D. Rand skillfully
explores the delicate balance between the dark and light elements of one of
the Bard’s “problem plays”. Set in the 1950's and 60's, CSF’s
interpretation of this piece will make audiences both think and laugh.*

*Traveling in repertory with The Winter's Tale is Antony and Cleopatra,
directed by Alison Garrigan, who brings her unique style to the stage in a
new approach to one of Shakespeare's great tragedies. In this production,
the hostile Roman takeover of Cleopatra's Egypt has been skillfully
translated into a modern business maneuver. Cultures clash when the
professional “Romans” encounter the exotic punk-rock world of the
“Egyptians”. Both Antony and Cleopatra and The Winter's Tale will be
presented on Saturdays and Sundays at various locations throughout Northeast
Ohio. *

* *

*As always, CSF performances are free and open to the public. By bringing
Shakespeare into communities and offering performances free of charge, the
Cleveland Shakespeare Festival makes quality theater accessible to all.*

* *

*Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and seat
themselves prior to each outdoor performance. Rain spaces have been secured
for every venue allowing performances to proceed, rain or shine. For more
