The Muscular Dystrophy Association
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is the world's largest non-governmental sponsor of research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for over 43 neuromuscular diseases, sponsoring some 400 research projects annually. The MDA also provides medical clinics, equipment, summer camps, and support groups devoted specifically to those affected by the diseases covered in its program of services.
The Show
U.S. Champion Men's Figure Skater Parker Pennington directed and produced the first annual Skate for Life Ice Show in April 2008 to bring awareness to those living with muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases. Pennington was inspired to start the Ice Show after his father was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in 1999. Skate for Life raised over $21,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in 2008.
The Skate For Life cast includes skaters of all levels and ages, including nationally ranked men's skater Parker Pennington, U.S. silver medallist ice dancers Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov, six-time Canadian Champion Jennifer Robinson, Gev Manoukian and Sara Von Gillern from So You Think You Can Dance and many others.
All proceeds raised from the Skate For Life event will benefit the MDA. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a silent auction, which will feature a variety of skating items and memorabilia, as well as donations from local businesses and restaurants.
Professional figure skating photographer, Leah Adams, is donating her time to cover all the photography for the event. Adams is a regular photographer for Blades On Ice and International Figure Skating magazines. Her photographs are featured in dozens of skating web sites and are on file with several major skating agents.

The 2009 Skate For Life Ice Show is coordinated and produced by Parker Pennington, in cooperation with Rachel Pivarnik, MDA District Director for Northeast Ohio, Bill Coyle, Chairman of the Greater Cleveland Council of Figure Skating Clubs, and Tonia Kwiatkowski and Wendy Barnett, co-producers of the Winterhurst ice shows in 2003 and 2007.
