Downtown Cleveland's only professional summer theatre company, Cleveland
State University Summer Stages returns with three shows running in rotating
repertory.

Tickets are available by phone at 216-687-2109 or by visiting the Factory
Theatre Box Office on East 24th Street.

As the summer resident theatre company of CSU, much of the cast is composed
of CSU Dramatic Arts students, local professional actors and CSU alumni. "As
a result of the overwhelming response to auditions, we are proud to announce
that we are the largest summer employer of local union actors in the
region," said Dr. Michael L. Mauldin, Director of Dramatic Arts and producer
of Summer Stages.

"We hope to expand and continue our significant presence in the downtown
arts scene with the proposed move of CSU Dramatic Arts to Playhouse Square
Center's Allen Theatre," he added.

The Shadow BoxThe Three Shows

For 2009, Summer Stages will present a sci-fi-Shakespeare musical, Return to
the Forbidden Planet, by Bob Carlton. This 50's/60's jukebox musical teams
the science fiction movie Forbidden Planet with Shakespeare's The Tempest to
make a ridiculous spoof for the whole family. It is directed by Dr.
Mauldin, director of 2007's hit musical The Robber Bridegroom.

Everett Quinton, director of last year's smash Dark of the Moon, returns to
direct the 1977 Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning drama The Shadow Box by
Michael Cristofer, which tells the story of three very different families
who face impending death with dignity, hope, and heartbreak. CSU Summer
Stages will also be partnering with local hospices, palliative care
facilities and homes, such as Ohio City's Malachi
<http://www.malachihouse.org/> House and the Hospice
<http://my.clevelandclinic.org/services/Hospice/hic_Hospice_of_Cleveland_Cli
nic.aspx> of the Cleveland Clinic, to help promote this powerful drama and
help raise money for them to continue their important work.

Rounding out the season is the hilarious Chekhov in Yalta by Jeffrey Haddow
and John Driver. This farcical comedy, directed by Cleveland Playhouse
Education Director Cathy Hartenstein, follows the long-suffering playwright
Anton Chekhov, recuperating at a holiday resort, when he is descended upon
by Stanislavski and the rest of the Moscow Art Theatre, looking to get their
hands on his latest script.
