for 
"PlayActs" Performances & “PlayActs” . . . To Go! 
Submissions
WAKE UP And LIVE's Actors' Studio 
      3.  the winner will receive a full production in “PlayActs” Performances .
      4.  runners-up will receive a staged reading in “PlayActs” . . . To Go!
 
. Guidelines: Plays must:
    1.   be RECEIVED by Monday, October 5, 2009.
     2.   have a Cover Page (title, playwright's name, date written, playwright's street address, zip, phone 
           number + area code, email address.)
     3.   list the Cast of Characters ( include names, ages, & brief description of their character). 
                    No more than 3 - 5 characters per One-act play. 
                    No more than 5 - 8 characters per Two-act play.
     4.   be neatly typed in Courier New: stage directions / blocking notes & dialogue must be 1 ½ line-spaced 
          for easy reading;   (stage directions / blocking notes should be italicized).
 
Sample typed play format:
                                              .    CHARACTER NAME (All Caps, centered on page.)
            .   Dialogue begins at left margin.
            .   (blocking notes, italicized, in parentheses.  Be careful! Don’t write in lots of emotional 
                direction, eg. “He bangs the table violently.” Let the dialogue, character,  and scene 
                 provide the emotion)
                                            .  Page number either centered bottom or lower right margin on page.
     5.   pages must be numbered.
     6.    Enclosed in a 3-hole binder or folder

NOTES:
. Plays which do not follow the Guidelines will not be considered. No exceptions.  
.  Plays will not be returned unless a self-addressed stamped envelope, with the correct amount of postage, is  
   enclosed. 


.Playwrights must submit: 
         .    $25.00 Entry Fee for each One-or Two- act play to be considered
         .    Three copies of each play to be considered.

The WAKE UP And LIVE’s Actors’ Studio:  
.   Serves a diverse community and provide alternative, low-cost quality, comprehensive craft, career and professional development training and education to aspiring and experienced actors and other performing artists who have limited financial resources to pursue their dreams; as well as provide performance opportunities on-stage and on-camera to prepare for their profession and showcase the diversity of artistic talents, including acting, playwriting, directing, singing, dancing, poetry and solo performances.
.   Allows those who are not pursuing acting or performing arts as a profession to enhance the quality of their life by developing improved self-expression and communication skills in their relationships at work, at home, and in social settings.

 is accepting One-or Two- act original plays (comedy, romantic, drama, 'dramedy' or mystery) from aspiring and experienced playwrights for its 2009-10 "PlayActs" season.  Adult, high school & college drama students are encouraged to submit their works.
                    
. Plays will be reviewed for:
     1. Reflecting diversity 
                .  particularly substantive roles for women of all ages 
                .  other minorities (ethnic, etc.)
                .  Special needs groups (disabled, at-risk teens, etc.)
      2.  Creativity, originality & potential to be performed in 90 minutes or less, before an audience. 

. If selected:
     1. the playwright will have the opportunity to work with the director and actors in the play's 
            development and performance process.
      2.  the version of the play submitted is the version which will be performed.
