G. B. Community Theatre at The Ashtabula Arts Center

Announces the 2009-2010 Theater Season!

G. B. Community Theatre at the Ashtabula Arts Center has announced its 2009 - 2010 theater season that will open this fall on October 2.

This year's opening production will be the Ayn Rand classic "Night of January 16th." In this dramatic courtroom tale Bjorn Faulkner has swindled millions of dollars from investors but in the wake of a crash, he is facing bankruptcy. On the night of January 16th, Bjorn and Karen Andre, his mistress of ten years, are in the penthouse at the top of the Faulkner Building when Faulkner falls to his death. Did he commit suicide? Or did the lovely Karen Andre do him in? A jury chosen from audience volunteers will weigh the facts and decide the verdict! "Night of January 16th" will be directed by Douglas Anderson of Ashtabula. Performance dates will be Oct. 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17.

Just in time for Halloween will be a spooky comedy classic "Blithe Spirit." Written by Noel Coward, this funky tale tells of Charles and Ruth who plan an amusing evening with friends by inviting Madame Arcati, a medium, to their home to hold a séance. The event turns into a nightmare of hilarity, however, when Charles' very jealous first wife returns from the hereafter and attempts to take matters into her own ethereal hands! When an accident also sends wife #2 to an early grave, Charles finds himself haunted by both! Noel Coward's improbable farce takes the audience on an amusing journey through this world and the next on October 30, 31, Nov. 1, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14. "Blithe Spirit" will be directed by Linda Fundis of Austinburg.

When can you see 20 Broadway shows in one evening? When "Forbidden Broadway Greatest Hits Vol. 1" takes the stage! Created and written by Gerard Alessandrini and directed by Kim Godfrey of Perry, this satirical review spoofs show tunes, characters and plots of contemporary and current Broadway musicals and was such a popular show on Broadway that it ran for 27 years! Rewritten several times to include parodies of newer shows, including "Phantom of the Opera," "Wicked," "Les Mis," "Hairspray," "The Lion King," and many more, this production is bound to be the highlight event on the post Christmas calendar! Performances will be held on Jan. 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 2010.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, Critics Circle Award, and virtually every other coveted prize of the theatre "The Diary of Anne Frank" by Frances Goodrich & Albert Hackett, and newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman will bring to life the true World War II story of the Jewish girl whose family hides in an attic in hopes of escaping the Nazis. Tender, amusing, enlightening, and moving "The Diary of Anne Frank" directed by Stephen Rhodes of Conneaut, will be performed Feb. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 2010

The cheerfully eccentric Vanderhof clan are a zany bunch who pursue whatever activity seizes their passion in Moss Hart's and George S. Kaufman's "You Can't Take it With You." When their daughter Alice announces her boyfriend's rich, conservative parents are coming to dinner; the family agrees to act "normal." But when the prospective in-laws show up on the wrong night.the fireworks fly! Directed by Clay Nielsen of Madison, the show will be performed on March 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, 2010.
