Grammy Award winner Cody Wood is “blowing” back into town with his jazz/blues combo, to headline Wake Up And Live’s  “A Night to Wake Up And Live with the Arts” gala, Saturday, October 31st, Ivy’s Catering at Greenmont, 800 South Green Road, South Euclid, OH, 7:00 P.
You can spend Halloween handing out candy to the neighborhood ghosts and goblins, or you can enjoy an evening of entertainment showcasing the Cleveland area's vibrant arts community featuring Cody Wood, recent CWRU grad, Anita Rose Banks, local legend jazz vocalist, and the Wake Up And Live’s Performers, all of whom are either currently working with, or are alumni of the Wake Up and Live’s Actors’ Studio..  Peter Lawson Jones, County Commissioner whose alter ego is actor and playwright, will host the gala being coordinated by Wake Up And Live’s Dahna Fox and James McGilbray.  And, all for a $50.00 donation.
Proceeds will go towards Wake Up and Live’s artistic programs, educational services, WUAL TV, and the “A New You For A New Life” video-based, communications and interpersonal skills development community service project, designed to help men and women in transition and teens in crisis become more successful in their employment, academic and life endeavors..

About The WAKE UP And LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
 
 u  Cody Wood
             After completing his first national solo tour in the summer   of 2008, Cody is continuing to gain recognition and momentum for his musical career.    His first professional record, Nothin’ to It, is a showcase of vocal capability,  lyrical composition, and musical thought. Cody has performed   as a member of   the top youth orchestras and choirs in Phoenix, Boston, and in college in Cleveland.  Cody was also a member of the renowned Phoenix Boys Choir and received a  Grammy Award for his participation in the recording of Krystof Penderecki’s   premiere of Credo. In high school Cody served as Senior Class Vice President, and  participated in the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, New England Conservatory, and Regional, District, and All State Orchestras.  After graduation, he  enrolled in the dual degree program at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland  Institute of Music for degrees in
 Biomedical Engineering and Music.  Initially his focus remained on violin.  However, his interest in singing was renewed when he returned home for his y ounger brother’s Senior Recital in Massachusetts.  Inspired by a vision of  singing and performing with his brother and his best friend, Cody returned to college  and dedicated himself to the art.  With Dan Meyer (Phillip Glass and Blood Sweat and Tears) and the Northcoast Jazz Collective. Cody is currently touring the United States with his Nothin’ to It Album, and has performed in Boston, Cleveland, Columbus,  Minneapolis, Nashville, and New York.  

 
 u   Anita Rose Banks With a rich and varied background in singing  instrumental music, and drama, Anita Rose Banks has shared her performance gifts in theaters, cultural festivals, churches, concert halls, restaurants, hotels, parties, clubs, and schools. Trained  in theater at University of Michigan, her acting experience began with musicals, such as Tambourines to Glory, by Langston Hughes, and Cinderella, in which she played the Fairy  Godmother. Today, an accomplished jazz vocalist, Anita has performed across the Midwest,   such as Cleveland’s Club Isabella’s and The Century at the Ritz-Carlton.  She sang and played  West African drums in the all-female funk/pop/folkloric musical ensemble, Ibu Ayan.  Her original  compositions were featured in the musical drama, “What’s Hair Got to Do With It?” performed at  Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland.  She has performed with the vocal quartet, Hue  People, a varied
 repertoire of Jazz, Reggae, Spiritual/Folk, Freedom songs, Urban Contemporary,   NeoSoul, and African Cultural music for the past six years, and performs as guest vocalist with the   Townsmen, a traditional jazz big band with a 50-year history.  She has been featured on Fox 8   “Kickin’ It with Kenny,” WVIZ’s Applause with Dee Perry, and in Wake Up and Live’s Actor’s  Studio’s productions. 
 
 u  Peter Lawson Jonesis becoming known as an accomplished actor and playwright in the greater Cleveland area. Audiences will remember seeing Peter as Tyrone Washington in the recent Karamu/Ensemble Theatre production of Bourbon at the Border. Peter has appeared in staged readings of A House with No Walls, Karamu (2007), and St. Lucy’s Eyes with Ruby Dee at the Cleveland Play House (2006).  As a student at Harvard, he appeared in several plays, including A Day of Absence, Goin’ a Buffalo, and Ceremonies in Dark Old Men, as well directing the 1979 Harvard Law School musical and performing in both the 1979 and 1980 musicals. Peter authored The Family Line, which has been performed at Harvard University (Cambridge, MA), Ohio Universit y (Athens, OH), and Karamu Theatre (Cleveland, OH).  The Family Linehas also received staged readings at the Beck Theatre for the Performing Arts (Lakewood, OH), East Cleveland Theatre (East Cleveland, OH), the
 Fairfield Community Arts Center (Fairfield, OH), and Wake Up and Live’s Actors’ Studio.In addition to being a County Commissioner and an honors- and award-winning attorney, Peter is married to Lisa and they are the proud parents of Ryan, Leah and Evan.
 
             About WAKE UP And LIVE’s Actors’ Studio & Sue Johnson
 
WAKE UP And LIVE’s Actors’ Studiois a non-profit 501©3 performing arts and education organization.  Established in 1997, we have provided aspiring and experienced performing artists with an opportunity to learn, improve and practice their crafts and skills through “PlayActs” Performances, which provides actors and other performing artists the opportunity to showcase their talents through plays, prose, poetry, performance pieces, dance and music.
We produce two WUAL TV shows called WAKE UP And LIVE with the ARTS, which celebrates and showcases the diversity of the performing arts and “A New You For A New Life,”  a holistic health and wellness show to help people transform their lives.  Both shows can be seen on Cox Cable, channel 45, and Cleveland Access, channel 197, as well as on YouTube.  
Since 1998, Johnson has coached and counseled more than 700 performers and writers. Among the Wake Up and Live Actors Studio's success stories are Ruby Fox, whose plays have been performed off-Broadway as well as on the Brooks Theater stage of the Cleveland Play House by Wake Up and Live's own actors; Rollin "Mac" Michael, who polished the skills that earned him acceptance by New York's prestigious Michael Chekhov school of performing and who has appeared in plays both locally and in New York; Cody Wood, one of whose band's first appearances was on Johnson's Wake Up and Live With the Arts local access cable TV show and who has since cut a CD and performs for appreciative audiences in Los Angeles; and Bernadette Lords, who has appeared in the major motion pictures You Don't Mess With the Zohan and Doubt.
 
. Sue Johnson  Director of the WAKE UP And LIVE's Actors' Studio, is an  actor, director,producer and coach. Sue produces, directs and co-hosts  WUAL TV’s  WAKE  UP And LIVE with the ARTS, which celebrates and showcases the diversity of performing and cultural artists, and  “A New You For A New Life,” a holistic health and wellness program. Sue’s professional acting credits include recent appearances in Cleveland  area theatres, including co-starring with Leon Bibb in A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters, performed at the Brooks Theatre, Cleveland Play House and, more recently, at the Kent State Writers’ Conference.  She has directed My Big Fat Dysfunctional Office, a commissioned  play, numerous "PlayActs" Performances, staged readings for Jim Spriggs' Terror on Biddle Street and Faye Sholiton’s All Things Being Equal for Karamu's Arenafest. TV credits include A & E's 100 Centre Street,  and films, Antwone Fisher directed by Denzel
 Washington, and The Year That  Trembled, Jay Craven, Director. Her talent resume lists numerous TV commercials, industrials, and voiceovers
