‘Portraits of Musical Americana’ is the theme of the first
concert of the 2009-2010 season of the Solon Philharmonic Orchestra. The
opening concert is on Sunday, November 22 at 3:00 pm. As an added musical
treat, SPO will feature the talented bass-baritone William Clarence Marshall
III who will perform Copland’s “A Lincoln Portrait”, a piece he has recorded
with The Cleveland Orchestra.

The Solon Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Greg Bassett,
begins its second season with an exciting program of music written by
American composers including Gottschalk, Barber and Gould. In addition to
“A Lincoln Portrait”, Mr. Marshall will sing Copland’s “Old American Songs”.
Audiences will remember him from his triumphant performances as ‘Joe’ in
“Show Boat” and ‘Porgy’ in “Porgy and Bess” earlier this year.

The SPO consists of talented musicians high school age to
seasoned senior citizens. With the support of Gerald MacDougall, Director
of the Strings Program with Solon Schools and SPO’s assistant conductor, it
has developed into a cohesive ensemble that provides educational and
performing opportunities for those involved.

Concert-goers are also invited to stay after the performance for
the “Meet the Artists” reception and the lighting and dedication of the new
History of Solon Sculpture at City Hall at 5:15 pm. Mayor Kevin C. Patton
will do the honors.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for Seniors and students. All
seating is reserved. The performance is in the Calvetta Bros. Floor Show
Theater at Solon Center for the Arts located at 6315 SOM Center Road. To
reserve your tickets in advance, call

(440) 337-1400.
