Firestone High School presents *1001 Afternoons in Chicago* by *Paul Peditto
* at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 3; Friday, December 4; and Saturday
December 5, 2009. Tickets are $5.00 in advance and $8.00 at the door.
Advanced tickets will be available in the school commons from 11:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. starting Monday, November 30, 2009. All performances will be held
in the Linda B. Kersker Auditorium.
*1001 Afternoons in Chicago* is under the direction of guest artist *Myron
Lewis* who has previously directed our outstanding productions of *A
Soldier’s Story* and *A Raisin in the Sun*.

*1001 Afternoons in Chicago* is a bustling pageant of Chicago street life in
1927 ... dozens of characters come to life from the loose narrative
involving young Ben Hecht, his editor, and his pal, the dashing author
Sherwood Anderson. Subjects range from the tragic to the bumptiously absurd
. . . There’s the Great Salvini, a knife thrower who memorized every curve
and flesh point to spare his wife, only to be outdone by her overeating.
There’s the poignant story of the immigrant factory magnate high on America
until he commits suicide. There’s the jazz musician trying to stay ahead of
reform, and the rumor chased through the neighborhoods that a ‘devil child’
was born at Hull House.

Firestone Theatre is the play-producing component of the high school visual
and performing arts program for the Akron Public Schools. The magnet arts
theatre program, which is housed at Firestone High School, is open via
audition and open enrollment to any incoming 9th through 11th grade student.
