[NEohioPAL] Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive

The Rotary Club of Strongsville, in conjunction with Be The Match Foundation and the Strongsville Rotary Interact Club, will host a bone marrow donor registration drive on Saturday, December 5, from noon to 3:00 p.m. at Westfield SouthPark mall, in Strongsville.




"A marrow transplant is often the only treatment available for patients of several diseases, including leukemia and Fanconi anemia, among others," said Jessica Cartagena, of Be The Match, the registry operated by the National Marrow Donor Program. "Every day more than 6,000 people search the Be The Match Registry because there is not a match in their family.  This holiday you can give the gift of hope to thousands of people by registering as a willing donor."

The process is painless and requires only a cheek swab to be taken.  There are no needles or blood.

All volunteers between the ages of 18 and 60 in good health are welcome.  There is no cost to join the registry thanks to the Rotary Club of Strongsville and Be The Match Foundation, which are covering the $100 cost to add a donor to the registry.

Cartagena and local student Chelsea, a marrow transplant recipient who celebrates a second birthday every year thanks to a donor, will be on hand to answer questions, along with members of the Strongsville Interact club and Rotary Club of Strongsville to assist people with registering.

The National Marrow Donor Program and the Be The Match Foundation are nonprofit organizations dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it.
Westfield SouthPark Mall has generously donated the use of space at the mall for the event.
