Akron Civic Theatre Hosts Three Time Grammy Award Winning Group 

Ladysmith Black Mambazo

 

Akron, OH (December 2009) - Three time Grammy Award winning group Ladysmith
Black Mambazo will perform South African tunes at the Akron Civic Theatre on
February 25, 2009 at 8 p.m.

 

The number one selling group from Africa rose to worldwide prominence as a
result of singing with Paul Simon on the Graceland album.  It has recorded
more than forty albums, selling more than seven million records at home and
abroad.

 

The group has recorded with numerous artists around the world, including
such talent as Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton and George Clinton.  It has
appeared in Michael Jackson's video "Moonwalker" and Spike Lee's "Do It A
Capella."  Ladysmith Black Mambazo has provided soundtrack material for
Disney's "The Lion King Part II," Eddie Murphy's "Coming to America," Marlon
Brando's "A Dry White Season" and many other productions. 

 

"This group represents the traditional culture of South Africa," said Howard
Parr, Civic Theatre executive director.  "The audience will be captivated by
this intriguing experience that's like no other."
