[NEohioPAL] time to boycott Hollywood

I think what Hollywood is longing for is a movie that will stand the test of time, that others will talk about in the next decade as a great movie, one that  you have to get your kids to watch...another Grease, or Breakfast Club...however they don't know where to go to get it.  Instead of reading new writers and making new comers able to break into the screenplay writing market they have stock writers working on scripts to remake what was cool "back then".  

I totally agree Hollywood needs a clue on what the public wants, however how do we go about letting them know that?  Stop going to the movies, stop watching TV?  I don't think that will ever fly as there is no way to get the masses to agree to that.  We want our quick entertainment fix, and that's not going to change.  And without masses you have no inpact on Hollywood at all.  Their bottom line is the dollar.

Unfortunatly we are in a rut when it comes to movie making....pumping out as many as possible to capatilize as much as possible has become the way the entertainment world works and good fundamentals: a great story (star wars), characters that are memorable (ferris), and a director that pulls it all together (dirty dancing), have fallen to the wayside.  

I have hung my head and sighed after watching 49 or the last 50 main stream movies I have seen.

This is all no surprise in a culture so hungry for "reality" TV - an art form that requires that we actually suppress our imagination. I do most of my film-going at the Cinematheque, where, despite the occasional dud, I am at least likely to be challenged in some way. Or else I get DVD of interesting stuff for home consumption. 

If you can find a copy of David Thomson's Esquire article, "Who Killed the Movies?", it's worth a read. 

There's still great work in film and theatre being done all over the world - but cheesy remakes of material that was cheesy to start with, and the general homogenization of all of it - stage, cinema, and TV - until it ALL looks the same, and I can't tell the play from the film from the musical from the TV show from the weather map - that's not it. Not for this citizen, at least. Why should I consent to be dead before my time?

Broderick approves 'Bueller' remake

Matthew Broderick has given Hollywood bosses the green light to remake his classic movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," but doesn't want any involvement in it. 
Rumors have swirled for months suggesting studio chiefs are nursing plans to bring the cult 1980s comedy back to the big screen in either a sequel or a remake. 
Broderick has now commented on the reports, insisting he would be "happy" with plans to bring back rebellious teen Ferris, as long as the project is handed to a completely new cast. 
He tells Cinematical, "(A remake) would be fine. I would be perfectly happy for somebody to do that. I probably wouldn't enjoy (having a role in the film). I would rather leave what we did as our thing." 

What is next??  Perhaps a Star Wars remake?  Maybe "The Muppet Movie" with an all human cast??  I overheard talk at work about somebody seeing a trailer for an A-Team movie-when will the madness end?
