*Script Analysis for the Actor
*Ages: 7th grade - Adult
Instructor: Seth Gordon
Three Sessions: Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and  2, 10am – Noon
 and Monday, May 3, 7:00 – 9:00pm.
Fee: $70

This master class will provide for theatre artists of any stripe (actors,
directors or designers) tools as they investigate plot, character, theme,
exposition, imagery, and other crucial parts of a play's structure. It will
also provide a method for breaking a play down into playable beats and
actions, from start to finish. It will introduce a way to read a play that
makes it truly theatrical, that anyone can do. Required reading for the
class will be Backwards and Forwards, by David Ball, and Hamlet, by William
Shakespeare.


*One Day Dance Workshop in Jazz, Ballet, Partnering and Lifts
“Give Yourself Over to the Dance”
*Ages: 6th grade - Adult
Instructor: Bebe Weinberg Katz
1 Session: Sunday, April 18, 2010, 1:00 – 4:00pm
Fee: $40
This class will be held at Fairmount Center’s Novelty Campus, 8400 Fairmount
Road.

Spend a day sweating and stretching and moving to the music.

This three hour workshop is open to dancers, actors, singers and anyone else
who loves to move. It includes:  Basic ballet and jazz technique for actors,
floor barre for posture, alignment and flexibility, partnering and lifts,
repertoire, nutrition for dancers, actors and singers. Bring dance clothes,
jazz or ballet shoes, a towel and lots of water.

*One Day Dance Workshop – “The Art of the Dance Audition”
*Ages: 6th grade - Adult
Instructor: Bebe Weinberg Katz
1 Session: Saturday, April 3, 9:30am – 1:00pm
(three hours of class / 30 minute lunch break at 11:30am)
Fee: $40

A dance audition can be a very threatening thing.  This workshop is designed
to give you some inside tips on how to go into that audition with
confidence.  The workshop dance portion will be a class in all the important
basic.  Center floor work, traveling across the floor, combinations, ballet
and jazz moves that are sure to be used, leaps and turns and simple partner
steps will all be covered.  Also during this workshop attention will be paid
to alignment, posture and flexibility.   To ease the non dancer into the
audition process the workshop will cover dance terminology, dance class
etiquette, how to prepare, what to wear and hoe to “put your best foot
forward”.  The first two hours will be all dancing, during the lunch break
there will be discussion about how to prepare, followed by another hour of
combinations, and partner work.

*Discover Character Development through Scene Study
*Ages: 8th grade - Adult
Instructor: Elizabeth Townsend
Ten Sessions, Mondays, starting March 15, 2010; 7:00 – 9:00pm
Fee: $195

Hone your skill and your acting technique through scene study designed to
meet your specific challenges. Whether you are interested in classical text
or contemporary, here is your opportunity stretch and learn. This course
will be featuring the use of the following techniques for character
development and interaction: Stanislavski, Meisner, and Chekhov. At the end
of the term, there will be a performance open to the public.

*Introduction to Improv Acting**
*Ages: 7th grade - Adult
Instructor: Marc Moritz
4 Sessions: Saturdays, March 20, 27, April 3, 10, 10:00am – 1:00pm
Fee: $130**


Have you ever wanted to learn the craft of improvisation, currently one of
the most popular performance art forms around?  Would you like to know the
secrets and tricks of the Improv trade?  Find out in our Introduction to
Improvisational Acting course.  The objectives of this course are to
discover the fundamentals of improvisational comedy, improve your
storytelling skills, learn techniques to think quickly on your feet and to
be more creative.  This spirited, fun course is designed for the actor or
comedian who wants to learn the essentials of good scenic improvisation or
anyone who wants to improve their teamwork or communication skills.  Through
coaching, warm-up exercises, creative performance games and basic short-form
scene-work, you will learn how to be more spontaneous, trusting and
cooperative and how to listen in a fun, creative atmosphere.

*On-Camera Audition Workshop*
Ages: 8th grade – Adult
Instructor: Doug Snyder
3 Sessions: Tuesdays, April 20, 27 & May 4, 6:30 – 9:30pm
Fee: $95

Are you interested in being in TV Commercials or in Feature Films?  If so,
this is the perfect class for you.  Whether you have never acted or have
been acting for years, this workshop will help you learn and understand some
specific and repeatable techniques to give you the confidence to audition
for any TV or film role.



Doug Snyder has been working in the Entertainment Industry for over 15 years
as an actor, director, writer, producer and musician.  For the past 5 years
he has been working as a talent agent, booking actors and actresses in
commercials and films.

The class sizes for these workshops will be limited (MAX of 6 students per
class) so that each student gets plenty of on-camera time during each class.

 We will work on script analysis and specific on-camera technique work.

   - How to break down a script,
   - How to make the right choices regarding character and objectives in the
   scene
   - Being more comfortable, natural and truthful on-camera

We will analyze each student’s work so that students can specify what they
are doing right and what they need to do to strengthen their On-Camera
performances.

Wear comfortable clothes to the first class, however we will talk about the
proper outfits, makeup, and hairstyles for On-Camera auditions.

This workshop will be open to anyone and will focus on specific skills and
techniques needed to audition for Non-Speaking Auditions, Speaking Auditions
(straight to camera, and off camera) and Speaking Auditions (with a
partner)  This workshop will consist of three - 3 hour classes.

*Class 1* will focus on Cold Readings and the basic structure of how to
audition On-Camera and the rules of how to break down ANY script
*Class 2* will focus on working On-Camera with memorized scripts
*Class 3* will focus 2 person scenes and using an ear-prompter to audition

*ABOUT THE THEATRE & DANCE INSTRUCTORS AT FPAC*

*Seth Gordon* is Associate Artistic Director of  the Cleveland Play House.
At the Play House, he produces FusionFest, helps with season planning and
casting, runs the Playwrights’ Unit, and directs plays. His Play House
directing credits include *Dinner with Friends, Proof, Forest City *(world
premiere), *Vincent in Brixton, Tuesdays with Morrie,* *A Christmas Story*,
*RFK, Of Mice and Men, The Chosen, Doubt, The Lady with All the Answers *and
*Inherit the Wind.* He has also directed in Cleveland for Dobama Theatre,
the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, and the Beck Center for the Arts. He
recently directed the Arabic premiere of *Our Town *in Cairo. Previously, he
served as Literary Manager and then as Associate Producer of Primary Stages
in New York, where he produced and/or directed countless productions,
workshops and readings of new plays by this country’s leading playwrights.
He has also directed at many other New York theatres, and has directed and
lectured at various universities including Case Western Reserve University.
He received the 2004 and 2006 Northern Ohio Live Award for Excellence in
Theatre. He considers himself a lucky man.

*Bebe Weinberg Katz, B.A., M. Ed. *is an artist and an educator. She has
danced, choreographed, staged, designed, directed, taught, written and
illustrated. In all of these capacities her mission statement has been
simple and constant. "Art flows in two directions. It is both my passion and
my honor to take it in and send it out."

As an educator Bebe has taught dance to children, teens and adults in the
public schools, the Jewish Community Center, in her own dance and fitness
studio, in private dance studios and Camp Wise. Bebe holds a masters degree
in exercise science along with a B.A. in dance and has created many fitness
and wellness programs throughout the Cleveland area. Most notable is her
development of the aerobics program and the pre/post natal exercise program
at the JCC and the creation of a group exercise instructor training program
for Cleveland State University.

On the University level Bebe is a faculty member at Baldwin-Wallace College
and Cleveland State University. Her courses include: movement education
classes for early childhood majors, group fitness instructor training,
women’s wellness seminars and dance methodology and pedagogy.

Her dance credits extend from Purcell’s Opera *The Fairy Queen* and The
Cathy Powel Dance Company in Pittsburgh to the Dancing Mimes at
DanceCleveland as well as her own company, Center Motion at the JCC.

Bebe was the resident choreographer for the vocal music departments at
Euclid High School. While in Euclid Bebe worked with the show choir “Varsity
Choral” and choreographed their productions of *The Music Man, Hello Dolly,
Anything Goes, Pajama Game, Pippin, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz* and*Grease*.

She currently holds the position of resident choreographer at Shaker Heights
High School and Cleveland Heights High School. She is the choreographer for
Shaker’s “Chanticleers” and Cleveland Height’s nationally ranked show choir
“Singers”. Bebe has done the choreography for the CHHS productions of *Fiddler
on the Roof, West Side Story* and *Guys and Dolls*, as well as doing costume
design for the latter two.

Bebe has production credentials spanning the 35 years she has lived in
Cleveland. She was dance and drama specialist at Camp Wise, and performed
the choreographer duties for *Mame* at Chagrin Valley Little Theater, *Anything
Goes** *at Euclid Community Theater, *Joseph, Holy Moses, Rock Pinocchio,
The Grand Tour* and *Fiddler on the Roof* at the Cleveland JCC. She also
directed*The Apple Tree* for the JCC and was costume assistant for *The Wall
* and *The Merry Widow*.

She also has written a number of books. Her most recent works are The
M.I.M.E Set, an activity book the integrates movement and academics, and
three middle grade chapter books titled*Princess Claudia and the Freckles*,
*A Best Friend for Claudia* and *Sibling Wars*.

*Doug Snyder* has been a Talent Agent for the past 5 years, but has been
working in the Entertainment Industry for over 15 years as an actor,
director, writer, producer, and musician.  Most recently, Doug directed, and
co-wrote the play *Cramped* for Cleveland Public Theatre’s 2010 Big Box
series.  Doug also composed and performed the score for the performance.
Some of the highlights of Doug’s career have been - working with Anne Bogart
at her SITI company workshop in 2003; producing the critically acclaimed
production of *Northeast Local* at the Red Room in New York City in 2005;
co-writing the screenplay for the Stephen King adaptation of *The Man Who
Loved Flowers* in 2006; and acting in the award-winning production of
*Boom*at CPT in 2008.  Currently, Doug is co-writing a complete album
of pop/rock
songs with Allison Bencar, which will be released this spring.  Amidst all
of this creative activity, Doug continues to run the Broadcast Department at
The Talent Group, the region’s largest franchised talent agency.  Doug
Snyder holds a BA in Theatre from Kent State University.



*Elizabeth Ann Townsend* is a professional actress and teacher. She is a
graduate of Columbia University in New York City where she lived, worked,
and studied as an actress for 22 years. She has performed in nearly all of
the major venues in Cleveland. Most recently, she was seen as the mother in
The Cleveland Play House's production of *A Christmas Story*. She was a
featured player in HBO's hit series "*The Sopranos*" and NBC's *"Law &
Order."* She has also been featured in numerous independent films and has
been a principle player in many national network commercials.

Elizabeth's training in New York includes: 3 years with The American
Stanislavski Theatre, 3 years of Meisner training and advanced scene study
with Wynn Handman of The American Place Theatre and 3 years of advanced
training with Alice Spivak, a protégé of Uta Hagan.

As a teacher, Elizabeth began coaching actors in New York City. In
Cleveland, she has taught commercial acting for The Cleveland Play House and
Shaker High School, Film Acting for the Cleveland School of the Arts. She is
one of the
Conservatory teachers at The Beck School of the Arts. She will be working
with teenagers this winter/spring in the Curtain Pullers series at The
Cleveland Play House.

In all the work that Elizabeth does, she has one goal: to help people live
the lives they dream of.

*Marc Moritz* is thrilled to be a part of FPAC 2010. Marc has appeared in
the Broadway production of the Stephen Sondheim / Hal Prince musical ,
MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. He most recently appeared as Senex in A FUNNY THING
HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM at Porthouse Theatre and in the Great Lakes
Theatre Festival -Idaho Shakespeare Festival Co-Production of INTO THE WOODS
. Favorite Roles: Mushnik in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Tateh -RAGTIME, Al
Jolson in JOLSON , Cat In The Hat - SEUSSICAL , Chico - COCOANUTS , Malvolio
- TWELFTH NIGHT , Ezekial Cheever - CRUCIBLE and Emperor Joseph - AMADEUS.
Theatres: GLTF, Idaho Shakespeare Festival , Riverside Shakespeare,
Cleveland Playhouse, Long Wharf, Goodman, New Harmony , & Dobama. Marc was
the Founder/Artistic Director of Cleveland’s popular GIANT PORTIONS IMPROV
CO. and has taught and performed with ImprovOlympic and Second City in
Chicago and NYC. Marc teaches acting at The Chagrin Valley Performing Arts
Academy and has appeared in numerous radio and TV commercials. He returned
this fall to Kent State for an MFA.
