Blending Boundaries
A show by Meyer’s School of Art New Media Students

On Sunday, April 25 at 7 pm, The University of Akron’s new media artists will premiere Blending Boundaries, a culmination of work by students enrolled in the New Media Class.  The show will take place on the University Campus in Guzzetta Hall, Studio 194.  The event is ONE NIGHT ONLY and is free to the public.  A reception will be held at the end of the performance.  

The artwork featured is interdisciplinary in nature, blending boundaries between sculpture, dance, photography, sound, theatre and film.  

Racecar | Racecar by Cole Melesky is an installation completely immersing the audience in the sound space of an adrenaline-fueled high-speed race.    
In 8000 Lines by Christopher Smith is an interactive performance that allows the audience to create concentric circles on a soft sculpture. 
Movement Magnified by Photographer Zachariah Szabo in collaboration with Kacie Keefe, a choreographer/dancer, where a member from the audience chooses still images to sequence a dance.
Dead Man’s Hand is a film produced, written and directed by the Fiorella Brothers.  In the film, The Reaper hosts a death poker game with the 7 deadly sins. 
Clown Dreams by Yulia Gray and Ron Davidoff is a circus inspired act, using clowns as metaphor for the different faces of humanity.  

Beginning in Fall 2010, students will be able to minor in New Media.  New Media is an interdisciplinary study, including classes from the departments of Dance/Theatre, Art, Music and Communication. The medium of New Media focuses on digital communication and interactive technologies.  Eunsu Kang, a New Media Artist and University Professor, will serve as Faculty Advisor for the program.
