*CHAGRIN FALLS PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY
(www.chagrinacademy.org)
2010-2011 Productions*

   - *November: THE APPLE TREE by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick*
      - *By the authors of Fiddler on the Roof, The Apple Tree is a musical
of three one-act plays. Each act has its own storyline,
and alll three are
tied together by a common theme (Be careful of what you
wish for - it may
not turn out to be what you wanted.) The first act is
based on Mark Twain's The
Diary of Adam and Eve; the second act is based onFrank R.
Stockton's The Lady or the Tiger?; the third act is based
            on Jules Feiffer's Passionella

            *
         - *December: THE LITTLE PRINCE by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry *
      - *The world famous story about a little prince who travels through
the universe on a little planet, finally landing on earth
in the Sahara
desert. The Little Prince makes several profound and idealistic
observations about life and human nature. For example,
Saint-Exupéry tells
of a fox meeting the young prince as he exits the Sahara
desert. The story's
essence is contained in the lines uttered by the fox to
the little prince:
"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What
is essential is
invisible to the eye." "You become responsible, forever,
for what you have
tamed" and "It is the time you have spent with your rose
that makes your
            rose so important."

            *
         - *December: SENIOR IMPROV SHOW by the Senior Consortium*
      - *Our yearly Improvisation utilizing Second City stylings in a free
            wheeling, audience participation environment.

            *
         - *February: 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE by William
   Finn and Rachel Sheinkin*
      - *A one act musical comedy with music and lyrics by William Finn and
a book by Rachel Sheinkin. The show centers around a
fictional spelling
bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle
School. Six
quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally-quirky
            grown-ups.

            *
         - *March: THE HEIRESS by Ruth and Augustus Goetz
(from Washington
   Square by Henry James)*
      - *A spine-chilling drama about a young heiress who falls hopelessly
in love with a handsome rogue, who leaves her on the night
she is about to
elope with him. She is devastated with loss and develops
a heart cold to
mens' sufferings in love. When her lover returns several
years later, broke
and once again eyeing her luxurious estate, he asks her
forgiveness. It is
then that she exacts her revenge... To find out what happens
next, perhaps you should consider joining the Academy....

            *
         - *March: BUS STOP by William Inge*
      - *

Nominated for 4 Tony Awards, Bus Stop is set in a diner about 20
miles west of Kansas City in early March, 1955. A freak
snowstorm has halted
the progress of the bus, and the eight characters have a
weather-enforced
layover in the diner from approximately 1 to 5 a.m. In
those early hours of
the morning, romantic relationships ensue between three
couples, each coming
to know themselves more fully and find a renewed interest
and perhaps
            happiness in their lives.

            *
         - *April MACBETH by William Shakespeare*
      - *William Shakespeare's shortest but most potent tragedy. It is the
story of a man and a woman (Macbeth and Lady Macbeth) who
seek the throne of
Scotland. When being told by three witches that he will be "king
hereafter", Macbeth enters a state of absolute
imagination, obsessing on
what must be done to get the throne. With urgings from
his wife, he kills
the king. With the first drop of blood spilled, a sea of
blood begins to
engulf the kingdom as Macbeth tries to cover his guilt. In
the end, the
prophesies of the three weird sisters prove true, and
terribly deadly.

            *
         - *May SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY by Edgar Lee Masters*
      - *Spoon River Anthology (1915), by Edgar Lee Masters, is a tale about
the fictional town of Spoon River told by the ghosts of
the dead in the
local graveyard. The personal epitaphs relate their life
stories and
surround us with the life and interrelationships of the
people. It is a
haunting, ribald, hilarious and often deeply moving look
into the secret
            lives of small town Americans.

            *

*DEVELOP YOUR CREATIVE SKILLS*
The Academy is for every student who wishes to develop their creative skills
and expressivity - not only young actors. While many of our students will be
trained and will indeed go on to be actors, directors, playwrights, singers,
many others will go on to a wide range of professions and extended study. They
will carry with them the special and empowering knowledge of self that comes
from the challenge of training in the theatre.

*REAL WORLD BENEFITS*
The courage to create, the confidence to stand calmly before others in
stressful situations, the facility to be expressive, the sense of play that
makes one young at heart, the wisdom to see the big picture, the rare and
essential skill to communicate clearly, the sensitivity to find meaning in
relationships and the business of life - these are all real-world benefits
of the training at the Academy.

*THE ACADEMY TEACHES IMPORTANT LESSONS FOR LIVING - NOT JUST CREATING ON THE
STAGE*
Students learn how to relax, to concentrate, to strengthen their voices and
bodies, to be expressive physically and emotionally, to improvise, to
develop empathy for others, to become literate and aware of the world and
aware of themselves. These are important lessons for living, not just acting
or creating on the stage.

*HOW TO APPLY*
Interested students should contact their guidance counselor to request an
audition right away and to sign up online at the applitrack system. Your
guidance counselor can help with all procedures.
