The Art of Character: Fantasy Illustration by Chris Seaman is the first major exhibition dedicated to fantasy illustrator and author Chris Seaman.  On view at Arts Collinwood from August 20, 2010 through September 10, 2010, the exhibition will feature over fifty original pieces of art designed to stimulate imagination and tell a story.  The first exhibition dedicated to this talented artist, The Art of Character: Fantasy Illustration by Chris Seaman examines the niche oriented industry that is fantasy illustration.  
 
As a commercial artist in the gaming industry, Chris’s work is often misunderstood and undervalued.  In a sense, Chris gives those playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons and World of Warcraft a conceptual foundation within their imaginary worlds.  The goal of the exhibition is to show how a mass produced piece, such as those seen on a playing card or book cover, has the ability to be viewed and appreciated as fine art.  A critique on how an individual views fantasy and commercial illustration, the exhibition will challenge mainstream opinions about fantasy art.  
 
Graduating from the Columbus College of Art and Design summa cum laude in 2000, Chris began his career illustrating card art for the Harry Potter Collectible Card Game.  As a full-time illustrator and author for the past ten years, Chris’s work has attracted such clients in the fantasy and gaming industry as Warner Brothers Studios, Upper Deck, Blizzard Entertainment, Wizards of the Coast, and Alderac Entertainment Group. Chris has co-written and illustrated three "How to Draw" books published by F&W Publications Inc. called Wreaking Havoc: How to Create Fantasy Warriors and Wicked Weapons, Drawing and Painting Blood Sucking Monsters and other Vampires, and Ink Bloom: Draw and Paint a Fantasy Adventure.  His work has also been featured in Dragon Magazine, Dungeon Magazine, Imagine FX Magazine.  
 
Chris’s work has been received and recognized by the Society of Illustrators NYC and the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles.  Chris also received the award of “Best in Show 2009” at the biggest fantasy and gaming convention in the nation, an honor comparable to “Artist of the Year.”  Annually held in Indianapolis, GenCon is recognized as the premier venue for fantasy and science fiction artists in the gaming industry.
