Karamu House kicks off its 2010-2011 Season of Joy and Perseverance
with the world premiere of Closure
CLEVELAND, Ohio (September 1, 2010) --- Karamu House, Inc.'s Performing Arts
Theatre celebrates its 87th theatrical season this year. The 2010-2011
season, named "The Season of Joy and Perseverance," features dramas,
musicals and comedy performances that represent the crises, challenges and
triumphs experienced by people throughout the cities and the country. This
season's timely and relevant theatrical selections address a myriad of
topics including breast cancer survival, personal resilience during war
time, self-image and acceptance. Although broad in subject matter, these
performances share a common purpose in their ability to encourage and
uplift.
The new season kicks off with the world premiere of Closure, a drama
written by local educator, poet, and playwright, Mary Weems. Closure is an
innovative fusion of images and traditional spoken word. This drama
features 28 poems, music, movement and multimedia images by
R. A. Washington which personify the voices of objects left behind in
foreclosed homes.
Closure is directed by Karamu's Artistic Director, Terrence Spivey, with
choreography by Cleveland's Emmy nominated, Dianne McIntyre. Closure will
be performed at Karamu located at 2355 East 89th Street, Cleveland, Ohio
44106- from September 17th through October 10th. For tickets and
additional information contact Karamu's box office at 216-795-7077 or visit
