First Mondays presents ARTEMISIA at The Alcazar on Monday, October 4 at 7
p.m.

When the painter Artemisia Gentileschi is raped by her father’s partner at
17, her life -- by the standards of 17th century Rome -- is over. How she
rises from disgrace to become one of the most sought after artists of the
Renaissance is the subject of ARTEMISIA, a full-length play by Jean Seitter
Cummins, adapted from the novel by Alexandra Lapierre. First Mondays
launches its new season with a reading of this story of love, ambition and
betrayal on Monday, October 4 at 7 p.m., at The Alcazar, the historic
residence at the top of Cedar Hill in Cleveland Heights.

The cast features Sally Groth, Michael Regnier, Nick Koesters, Courtney
Nelson, Agnes Herrmann, Joe Verciglio, Tim Keo, Paul Slimak and Dana Hart.
Artemisia previewed in May with a reading of the first act and a discussion
of the work of the Gentileschis – Artemisia and her father Orazio – led by
art historian Pat Ashton.

The October 4 reading includes both Acts I and II. Admission is free but a
donation of $5 is suggested to defer the cost of the reading. The Alcazar is
located at 2450 Derbyshire at the top of Cedar Hill in the Cedar Fairmount
neighborhood. Parking is available on the street and in the metered city lot
just off Cedar Road at Derbyshire. Call 321-5400 on the day of the program
to arrange handicapped parking in the Alcazar Garage.
