*Macbeth*

*by William Shakespeare*

*directed by Justin Emeka*

**

How can a nation divided rebuild a country ravaged by war? And when
does the desire for reconstruction grow into dangerous aspiration that
cultivates suspicion, oppression, and even cold-blooded murder? Director
Justin Emeka’s new production of *MacBeth* sets Shakespeare’s iconic play
against the violent wreckage of the American South after our country’s
bloodiest legacy, the Civil War. His re-envisioning of the classic text
pays tribute to the clash of culture and class that formed a turning point
in American history, when battling dreams and desires dissolved once again
into violence. *MacBeth* dives from the dizzying heights of human ambition
to the utter brutality that it inevitably creates, asking: How far are you
willing to go in the name of your country?
