The Heights Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Guest Conductor John Young Shik Concklin, will perform on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 7:30 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 13001 Cedar Road, in Cleveland Heights. The soloist will be Gino Raffaelli, performing Bach's Violin Concerto #2 in E Major, BWV 1042. The program also includes Mendelssohn's Symphony #5 in D Major, Opus 107 " Reformation."  Free will donation.   
   

Mr. Raffaelli  has been concertmaster of Heights Chamber Orchestra since its founding in 1983, and was a member of the Cleveland Orchestra from 1957 until his retirement in 2001. He is also a founder and president of PAND, Performers and Artists for Nuclear Disarmament. Since its inception, PAND has raised over $200,000 to assist the activities of peace and environmental groups. 
  

Mr. Concklin studied conducting, viola, and piano at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University and won the Alexander Heard Prize for excellence in performance. He most recently studied under David Zinman at the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival. For the past two years, he has served as Associate Conductor and Creative Director with the Cobb Symphony. During the summer, Mr. Concklin serves as a faculty member at the McAlester Institute of Music in Oklahoma. He currently is studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music for Professional Studies in Orchestra Conducting.
