Assistant Professor, Dance
The University of Akron

Qualified candidates sought for full-time tenure-track position.  August 2011 anticipated start date.  Responsibilities include:  teach in the dance curriculum including advanced levels of ballet technique, choreograph or restage mainstage productions, mentor student choreographers, advise students on academic and career goals, serve on college and/or university committees, engage in scholarly activities and/or creative endeavors.

Minimum qualifications:  A relevant master's degree, required, M.F.A. or Doctorate in dance preferred; professional experience in the field of Ballet; teaching experience required; ability to teach advanced levels of ballet technique; demonstrated ability to choreograph or restage ballets.

Desired qualifications:  teaching experience at the college level; sensitivity to the nature of teaching B.F.A. and B.A. dance majors as well as dance minors; knowledge of and ability to teach Pointe, History of Ballet, and teach one or more of the following:  dance education, choreography, anatomy and physiology for dance, beginning through intermediate levels of Ballet technique, somatic education practices (Alexander Technique, Gyrotonic (r)).

Adjacent is E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, the region's flagship performance venue.  Recent residencies include David Parsons Dance Company, Lines Ballet, Doug Varone and Dancers, Taylor 2, and Keigwin + Company.
