New
Children's Book by Local Author and Performer a Story about Learning
to Love

“You
know the beautiful city– the one atop the mountain? How do I get
there?”
“There
is only one way to get there my child. You must learn to love. . .
You must learn to give your heart away.”

Lily
and the City of Light” tells the
story
of Lily, a young orphan girl, who dreams of leaving her dark village
and going to the City of Light. But when she learns from an old
messenger that the secret to getting there lies in making a great
sacrifice, she faces a difficult challenge. Readers of this
heartwarming story will journey alongside Lily in her quest for the
great city as she meets lots of colorful characters and learns both
the pain and joy that come from learning to love.

Author
Lindsay Bonilla was inspired to write Lily and the City
of Light during her senior
year at Northwestern University. The idea for the story literally hit
her out of the blue one day, and she had to race to her computer to
get the ideas and text down as fast as they were coming to her. Along
with her college fellowship group, Bonilla dramatized the story and
shared it with children in Trinidad during a spring break trip, but
after that the story sat in a binder gathering dust while Bonilla
pursued her passion for acting, moved to Spain, moved back home, and
got married. Seven years later during a transitional time in her
theatre career, Bonilla rediscovered the manuscript and decided to
dust it off and send it to publishers. It eventually found a home at
Guardian Angel Publishing, and Bonilla couldn't be happier about
sharing her story with young readers and their families.

“Stories
are powerful,” says Bonilla. “We tend to think they are
exclusively for children, but they speak to adults as well. It's
crazy how many times I've thought about Lily's story over the past
few months and been challenged by how far I fall short when it comes
to truly loving others.”

Bonilla
hopes that the book will inspire readers to love fully and believe in
their dreams. As reviewer Nancy Carty Lepri
says: “This delightful story, enhanced by whimsical illustrations,
shows the sacrifice of giving one’s heart away while learning how
to love unconditionally. A fantasy tale, this not only teaches a
lesson, but offers a source of wonder and joy.”

Lindsay
Bonilla is living her dreams as an author, actress, world traveler,
and storyteller. As the founder and director of World
of Difference Ltd.,
a touring theatrical storytelling company, she visits libraries,
schools and other venues, sharing her interactive and educational
performances of folktales with audiences of all ages while at the
same time inspiring the imagination and instilling a love for
learning and literacy. She lives in North Canton, OH with her husband
and biggest supporter, Estith.
