Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2011 and another fantastic year of entertainment from Chagrin
Valley Little Theatre. Following the absolutely wild December we had
with /Annie, Gingerbread Tea,/ and the Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra
bringing Christmas Cheer,/ Hillary: A Modern Greek Tragedy with a
(somewhat) Happy Ending/ bringing laughs, and /Decades of Divas/ getting
the toes tapping for New Year's Eve, we are looking forward to a welcome
bit of breathing room in our calendar this month.
The main stage production of /Bloody Murder
<http://cvlt.org/81stSeason/bloodymurder.php>/ opens on the 14th, and
the Youth Theatre commences its next session on the 8th. Our River
Street Playhouse will host Your Hometown Chagrin Falls
<http://yourhometownchagrinfalls.com> on January 11. Also, CVLT will be
acting as a ticketing outlet for the January 29 performance of the
Cleveland Jazz Orchestra <http://www.chagrinarts.org>, brought to you by
the Chagrin Foundation for Arts & Culture. <http://www.chagrinarts.org>
CVLT's outreach program, Accent on Youth, will continue to be active in
January at West Geauga, Solon and Mayfield schools, presenting social
and relationship issues under the coordination of Julia Kolibab.
The CVLT Board of Directors will meet this month at Hamlet Village
<http://www.hamletretirement.com> to discuss various long-term planning
issues, with Lisa Kraemer serving as moderator. This process is
invaluable to CVLT as the Directors fashion improvements in direction
and mission, and implement programs for the Theatre's Capital Campaign
initiative, which will be highlighted throughout the New Year.
See you soon,
Your Friends at CVLT

Playwright Ed Sala offers up a twisted whodunit in /Bloody Murder/, a
play that turns the murder-mystery genre on its head. Premiering at
Akron's Weathervane Playhouse in January, 2009, this
fourth-wall-breaking spoof opens on January 14th at CVLT.
The wealthy Lady Somerset has assembled an unlikely group of guests for
a weekend at her lavish countryside estate. The attendees represent the
usual murder-mystery suspects; we meet a middle-aged maid, a far-too
innocent ingenue, an enigmatic and well-preserved countess, a
self-glorifying Major, the ne'er-do-well nephew and an actor of former
acclaim.
Sure enough, one of these people meets a mysterious and violent end. But
Lady Somerset takes an unusual turn by refusing to call the authorities
(although the bumbling police chief eventually arrives) and she insists
that she and her guests are simply characters in a mystery story who
must rebel against their author. The players and their writer enter into
a wild battle of wills that delivers plenty of laughter and a surprising
end!
"It's a sign of fresh, intelligent writing when a playwright
succeeds in totally messing with his audience's minds. (In a playful
way, that is.)"
- /Kerry Clawson, Akron Beacon Journal/
