PLAYERS GUILD THEATRE IGNITES 2011 WINTER THEATRE CLASSES
Classes Run January 17 to March 5, 2011 for Children and Adults
Private Lessons Run All Year
 
CANTON, OH - The Players Guild Theatre of Canton, OH continues enrollment for its 2011 winter classes in acting, makeup and costume design.  Group acting and design classes begin the week of January 17 through March 5, 2011.  Private Acting and Voice instructors are also enrolling new students all year.  Class sizes are limited to encourage the highest standard of education excellence.  Adults and children alike are encouraged to become a part of our award winning theatre and its professional, theatre education program.  
 
To enroll, or for more information, please call Jeremy Lewis, Associate Artistic Director at 330-453-7619 ex: 500.  Group classes cost $45-$75 for seven weekly sessions; only $10.70 a class!  Private lessons cost $25 per ½ hour and $40 per hour and feature one-on-one attention to professional and personal goals.  Each group class is offered in three sessions throughout the year (fall, winter and spring) and offers new material and ongoing training.  Both returning and new students are welcomed each session all year long.     
 
Theatre Education at The Players Guild Theatre is design to provide the highest quality of training practicum within a nurturing environment.  Each group class and private instructor brings a diverse, professional expertise to the art of theatre.  Students at The Players Guild Theatre become stellar communicators with the ability to pursue a professional career in theatre, or in other careers such as government, human resources, counseling, and social services.    
 
The following group classes and private lessons for adults and children will be offered: 
 
 
Tiny Tot Theatre (ages 3-5) A fun-filled class for your little theatrical toddler…AND you!  Each class will last for one half hour filled with theatrical play, music and simply getting your toddler ready for theatre.  By engaging in theatrical games based on Pre-K curriculum, your child can get ready for all the wonderful opportunities theatre can offer.
 
Mondays: 5-5:30pm

What is this “acting thing” all about? (ages 6-10) In this class we’ll be sorting it all out and having fun while doing it.  Students will be given a first hand, interactive experience on the fundamental basics of acting through the use theatre games and physical exercises.  Students will be encouraged to use their imaginations as they learn to create characters, build scenes and invent whole worlds.  Students will also practice listening skills and teamwork to help them work as an ensemble and learn the discipline of performance.                                                                            
Wednesdays: 5:30-6:30pm

Showtime! (ages 10-13) Participating in a musical is one of the most rewarding experiences a young person can have.  This class is for students who are interested in singing, dancing, and acting.  Students will learn audition techniques, theatre etiquette, the basic elements of musical staging and much more.  “Showtime!” is a great way to dive into the magic of musical theatre.

Acting Exploration (ages 10-13) Interested in acting or performing?  Never taken a step onto a stage before? Struggling to find the confidence to take that first step into the world of Theatre?  This class is perfect for you.  Acting Exploration offers your student a relaxed and nurturing environment to learn the basics of acting along with gaining the confidence to explore endless possibilities of acting.  
Tuesdays 5-6:30pm

Acting Transition (ages 13-17) A study in differing approaches to creating and acting for the stage and screen.  A perfect fit for teens who dare to dream of the lifelong pursuit of performing.  This class will help develop your creativity and broaden your horizons to achieve stronger confidence as well as strengthen your inhibitions on the stage.

In the Moment (ages 17 - adult) Understanding what being “in the moment” means in addition to learning to focus on another actor fully, and learning the difference between being “in your head” vs. “in the moment”.  Throughout the class, students will progress towards using props and building a small scene with activities, distractions and a purpose.  Every movement and word MUST have a meaning, drive, and purpose.  An excellent class for adults looking to jump starts their acting experience.
 
Thursdays 5:30-7pm

How Not to “Suck” on Stage (ages 18 - adult) At one time or another an actor has said, “My performance sucked!”  This class will take a comprehensive look at the acting experience on and off stage.  In this class, actors will be instructed in proper preparation, the analytical process of script analysis, building focus, concentration and confidence, learning how to go deeper and deeper emotionally, learning how to take risks, and most of all how not to suck when it really counts.                                                                                 
 
Wednesdays 6:45-8:15pm

Stage Make-Up 101 (ages 15 - adult) Ever curious about how the wicked witch’s face, neck and hands can stay GREEN for so long?  Ever curious about how an actor on stage can have a stick coming out of their eye?  Strange, right?  The art of stage make-up, makes the strange and impossible, possible.  Starting with the basics of make-up artistry, “Stage Make-Up 101” will provide a hands-on education of the fundamentals of aging, fantasy, and special effects.  *There will be an additional $25 cost for supplies.
 
Saturdays 10:30-12pm

Project Broadway: Costume Design (ages 15 - adult) “Make it Work!”  Submerse yourself in bolts of fabrics and spools of thread.  Learn the fundamentals of costume design in a fun, project-oriented class.  Participants will engage “hands-on” with the instructor and study the principals of effective costuming.
