Acting workshops are for beginners and veterans alike

The Ashtabula Arts Center will be offering several workshops for actors of
differing skill levels this winter. Pre-registration is required and can be
made by calling the Arts Center at (440) 964-3396.

"So, This Is Your First Time?" will be a beginners acting workshop for
adults. Offered on Saturday, Feb. 19th from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., the cost of
the workshop is $10.

Veteran actor Tom Jessup of Geneva will lead the workshop which is for those
who have never acted before, but who want to know what it's all about and
how to go about doing it. Jessup will take participants through show
selection, the audition process, and the actual show itself and what he
feels is expected of actors. Be prepared to have fun and leave your
inhibitions at the door! This is a great class for gaining the confidence
you need to step onto the stage!

"Stage Dialects: A Teen-Adult Workshop" will be led by veteran
actor/director Douglas Anderson on Saturday Feb. 22 from 9:30 to 11:30 am.
Cost of the workshop is $10.

A basic introduction to two of the more commonly used English and American
dialects for the stage will be taught: New York Metropolitan and Received
Pronunciation (upper class English). Differences in pronunciation, cadence
and timbre will be demonstrated and discussed. Practice monologues will be
provided for each.

The final workshop of the winter season will be "NEXT! Audition Know-How."

This Teen-Adult workshop with Douglas Anderson will be held on Saturday,
March 5th from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Cost of the workshop is $10.

"Next" will prepare you for your next theatrical audition. Students will
learn to find and choose appropriate monologues for auditions, and tips on
how to practice them for effective delivery. Choosing an appropriate song
will also be covered, as well as how and where to find sheet music.
Students will read from suggested scripts and receive one-on-one coaching.

Pre-registration is required for all classes and workshops and can be made
by calling the Arts Center at (440) 964-3396.

The Ashtabula Arts Center is funded in part by the Ohio Arts Council.
