The Players Guild Theatre Hold Auditions for The Elephant Man

PRODUCTION 
The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance, a Tony Award winning drama, to be present in The Players Guild Theatre "Stripped Away" series - an actor focused production that proves the strength of text and performance through minimizing theatrical artifice.

By appointment:      Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM 
Open call:                 Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM 
Callbacks:                Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM 
  
Casting is open to all types. 
Those interested in auditioning should come prepared with one monologue either dramatic or comedic.  In the event you do not have a monologue prepared, the director is able to provide a short cutting.

REHEARSALS and PERFORMANCES 
Rehearsals begin as soon as Monday, January 24, 2011 with regular rehearsals running Monday through Friday 
Performances are Friday, February 25 through Sunday, March 13; Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM, Sundays at 2:30 PM 
  
 
THE STORY 
Based on the life of John Merrick, The Elephant Man tells the story of a young man who is the victim of a rare skin and bone disease, who has become the star freak attraction in traveling side shows.  When found by the celebrated young physician, Frederick Treves, Merrick is admitted to London’s prestigious Whitechapel hospital, and is introduced to London society and slowly evolves from an object of pity to an urbane and witty favorite of the aristocracy and literati only to be denied his ultimate dream, to become a man like any other.
