Two monologues (one classical), 16 bars; no longer than 5 minutes total

An accompanist will be provided at the audition

All roles are open except for Prospero (The Tempest)

1) WHAT THE BUTLER SAW

Casting Information

English characters, set in England, 1960's

DR. PRENTICE: male, 50's, intense, intelligent, libidinous, conservative
look, standard English accent

GERALDINE BARCLAY, female, 20's, attractive, innocent, London accent

MRS. PRENTICE: female, 40's, stylish, a nymphomaniac, wife of Dr. Prentice,
standard English accent

NICHOLAS BECKETT: male, 20's, attractive, bellboy, not so innocent,
manipulative, London accent, partial nudity

DR. RANCE: male, 50's or 60's, a little less well-preserved than Dr.
Prentice, but equally intense, standard English accent

SGT. MATCH: male, 40's or 50's, traditional London cop, ponderous but
passionate, London accent

 

2) THE TEMPEST

A cast of 12-20. Experience with Suzuki / viewpoints will be helpful

PROSPERO: (pre-cast)

ALONSO: male / 40s-60s, King of Naples

SEBASTIAN: male / 30s-60s, Alonso's brother

ANTONIO: male / 40s-50s, Prospero's brother, Duke of Milan

FERDINAND: male / teens-20s, Son to the King

GONZALO: male / 50-70, counselor to the Count of Milan

CALIBAN: male / any age, a savage, deformed monster

TRINCULO: male or female / any age, a drunken jester

STEPHANO: male / any age, a drunken butler

MIRANDA: female / teens-20s, Prospero's daughter

ARIEL: male or female / any age, a powerful spirit

BOATSWAIN: male / 20-60, a master sailor

CHORUS (SPIRITS/SAILORS/LORDS)

 

3) HELLO AGAIN

Casting Information

All actors play a number of roles of varying types, with one primary role.
Seeking strong dramatic actors with strong voices and movement skills. 

THE WHORE: Woman, early - late 30s. Mysterious, sensual, desperate, tortured
yet spiritual. Mezzo/alto.

THE NURSE: Woman, early 20s - mid 30s. Innocent, young, sexy, funny and
powerful. Soprano.

THE YOUNG WIFE: Woman, early 20s - mid 30s. Neurotic, tortured, confused,
lost and sensual. Soprano/mezzo.

THE ACTRESS: Woman, mid - late 30s. Sexy, demanding, powerful, manipulative
and searching. Mezzo.

THE SOLDIER: Man, mid 20s - early 30s. Young, fast, decisive player-type.
Baritenor.

THE COLLEGE BOY: Man, early - late 20s. Young, handsome, tortured, sexy,
confused, guilty. Tenor. 

THE HUSBAND: Man, mid - late 40s. Older, distinguished, handsome, desperate,
manipulative. Baritenor.

THE YOUNG THING: Man, early 20s - early 30s. Young, sexy, "over-it,"
searching, tender hustler. Tenor.

THE WRITER: Man, late 30s. Neurotic, desperate, obsessed, frustrated, sexy.
Baritenor.

THE SENATOR: Man, mid 40s - early 50s. Handsome, sexy, lost, tired,
confused. Baritenor.
