Featuring Mother/Tongue this weekend!



Claire Robinson May’s Mother/Tongue is a full length play about workaholics, mothers, and cow-tongue (a delicacy!). A family's quiet dysfunction bubbles to the surface as Margot begins obsessively preparing Julia Child's gruesome beef-tongue recipe, disappearing for hours, and speaking only French. Her two teenagers struggle in a world of their own. Margot's husband Tom tries to reach out, her mother-in-law Beverly tries to take over, and her best friend Jane tries to fill in. Mother/Tongue, in its repressed and overt madness, examines what happens when we don't see or discuss what is right in front of us, and when we fail those we love the most. With elements of drama, comedy, mystery, and tragedy, Mother/Tongue serves up a platter of isolation, communication, motherhood, food and love. Bon appétit!



Mother/Tongue was performed as a staged reading in CPT's Little Box series in November 2009.

Now in its tenth successful year, Cleveland Public Theatre is proud to support and foster the work of area artists in the Big [BOX] Series. Over eight weekends, thirteen artists are given keys to the James Levin Theatre and the freedom to transform the space for the presentation of their work. The resulting performances are always amazing and well attended.
