On this week’s show: Short Drama Film, “Running Away with Blackie”; Directed and Produced by Lucas Cody Garcia; Starring August Emerson, Natasha Lyonne, Camden Toy and Bill Suplee.

About the Film:

"Running Away With Blackie" takes a complex and thought-provoking look into the lonely and desperate life of Jetty (August Emerson).

Along with his best and only friend; his dog Blackie, he travels cross country where he ends up at an isolated motel. Here he encounters some unusual characters who serve as a constant reminder of what he has been trying to run away from all along.

When he encounters a strange figure (Camden Toy) he learns the only one who stands in his way is himself, and can no longer run away with Blackie.

About the Director:

Lucas Cody Garcia was born and raised in Houston, Texas. At the age of seventeen he decided to move out of the south and to New York City. Here he studied the history of American and International filmmaking and made his first short film entitled Night Shift. Shot on super 16mm, he edited and designed the sound himself using a Steinbeck.

By means of these and other old school techniques, it taught him the fundamentals of filmmaking and when it came to collaborating with other aspiring artists, he had a new found respect and appreciation for every element that goes into creating even the simplest of motion pictures.

After an eventful stay in the Big Apple, Lucas learned of his acceptance into the Los Angeles Film School. This is where he made his second short film, Delicious, which won top honors at his school and was accepted into multiple film festivals including the Silver Lake Film Festival 2006.

After a brief hiatus working in the production circuit and art department, Running Away with Blackie marks his return to his first true love, directing.

The Director of the film will be in our chat room for the duration of the show. Check us out live, and you’ll get a chance to talk to him!
