AUDITIONS FOR THE MIDWEST PREMIERE OF
"SCREAM QUEENS: THE MUSICAL"!

"THEY SING!!  THEY DANCE!!  THEY DIE!!"

Independence Community Theatre, 6652 Brecksville Road, Independence, OH,
is holding auditions for this "Scream Queens" on Sunday, February
27th from 1 - 3 pm and on Tuesday, March 1st from 7 - 9 pm.  The performance
run for "Scream Queens" will be Fridays and Saturdays, opening
April 29th and running through May 21st.

"Scream Queens: The Musical" is finally getting its Midwest Premiere!
Written by Cleveland area native Scott Martin (who wrote big musical
hits for CVLT, including "Sgt Fenshaw Of The Mounties"; "Tin
Pan Abbie"; and "The Return Of Sgt Fenshaw"), this musical
is set in the ballroom of a hotel in Parma, OH, in 1998.  Six voluptuous
B-movie "Scream Queens" are trying to revive their fading acting
careers by presenting a musical revue for their fans at a science fiction
and horror film convention. From the young newbie to the seasoned grand
dame, the Queens strut their stuff in song and dance to prove "I Got
All of the Talent I Need." For 90 minutes of hilarious musical mayhem,
they take the audience into the world of no-budget movies with awful scripts,
fake monsters and gooey "Special FX." They even involve the audience
in a screaming contest and zombie talent search.  Plus, we get to
see "film highlights" from their horror movie "careers".
"Scream Queens" had its premiere in Los Angeles in 1998
and was a huge hit:

"A sassy musical revue; an affectionate funny tribute…with something
for everyone." —Los Angeles Times

"Campy and full of shtick, affection and great fun!" —The
Hollywood Reporter

"It's a riot!" —Los Angeles Jewish Times

"Scream Queens may leave you cheering. An infectiously high-spirited
homage." —Los Angeles Daily News

"With an almost Rocky Horror Show-like presentation, complete
with out-of-this world musical numbers and crazy costumes, Scream Queens
keeps the audience laughing…cheering and clapping." —UCLA Daily
Bruin

"They nailed it! It was as if someone had sat beside us at the conventions
and absorbed everything. I thought the lyrics were clever and brilliant.
It was really funny!" —Brinke Stevens, actual Scream Queen

Director Michael Rogan, Co-Director/Music Director Eric Oswald and Producer
Bonnie LoConti are looking for 6 women, ages late teens to 50s who can
sing, move, and SCREAM well!  The cast members will even be involved
in making their own horror movie "clips" for their "film
highlight reels."

Character Descriptions (note - looking for a diverse cast - these descriptions
are not necessarily set in stone):

ALEXIS - The smart one; 40s; alto; compassionate, sisterly, levelheaded.
She has a college degree, invests carefully and acts as the politician,
often refereeing amongst the other Queens. She also has the good business
sense to produce her own videos.

BIANCA - The loveable one; 30s; mezzo; good-natured with practical mid-western/southern
earthiness. She’s happily married with children but never lets the spotlight
intrude on her private life. Her occasional clumsiness is due to her refusal
to wear her eyeglasses in public. A southern accent is a plus.

DEEDEE - The trashy one; 30s; mezzo; intense, edgy, tough on the outside
but lonely and desperate within. She wears extreme make-up, hair and clothes
to hide her natural beauty, and will do anything to, for and with anybody
to get ahead and be noticed like her idol Traci Lords.

NADINE - The "Legend"; 50s (sings that she is "50 and HOLDING");
alto; sensual yet aloof. She’s the senior “Scream Queen” who has seen
and done it all, having played everything from a corpse to a vampire princess
to a prehistoric tribal maiden to a Playboy centerfold – almost. She’s
a semi-recovered alcoholic and sneaks a quick drink from a small flask
whenever she thinks no one is looking.  British accent a plus

RICHELLE - The cute one; 30s; alto; perky, a girl-next-door smile with
a girl-on-the-corner body. She was the most popular “Scream Queen” of
the late 20th century and is very anxious to revive her career. She has
appeared at many dozens of these conventions and originated the idea for
tonight’s show.

TONYA - The sincere one; 20s; mezzo; sweet, charismatic, still somewhat
naïve. A former Tri-State cheerleading champion, she is the most serious
actress of the group and really believes that her B-movie career will lay
a foundation for respectable stardom.

Come prepared to sing two songs - one upbeat, one ballad.  The show
covers many musical styles from traditional Broadway to Motown, Country,
Salsa, etc.  Accompanist will be provided, please have sheet music
with you - no acapella or CD accompaniment.  Readings will be from
the script (note - "adult" language is used in this show!).  Be
dressed for movement as well.

Independence Community Theatre is located
at 6652 Brecksville Road, in the Independence Old Town Hall (Upstairs).
