PRESS RELEASE
The CenterStage Theater Department at Walsh Jesuit High School will
present its Spring musical production, “Singin’ In The Rain,” written
by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, with music by Nacio Herb Brown and
Arthur Freed, March 11th -21st , 2010 in the theatre at Walsh Jesuit
High School 4550 Wyoga Lake Road, in Cuyahoga Falls.
The original production was directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen
and produced for MGM in 1952 by the legendary Arthur Freed, whose
extensive catalog of songs was used for the score. The movie starred
Kelly (Don), Debbie Reynolds (Kathy), Donald O’Conner (Cosmo), Jean
Hagen (Lina), and Cyd Charisse as a New York moll in the “Broadway
Melody” sequence. A young Rita Moreno had a featured role. Many
consider it to be the best movie musical ever made, so its choice for
stage adaptation was a natural one. The original Broadway production
ran for 405 performances, including previws, and a London version with
Tommy Steele was an even bigger hit. Running for several years. A
touring version ran for a year. A live 15 piece orchestra made up of
local professionals and some of Walsh Jesuit’s instrumental students
will perform the musical score.
David Banks will once again direct the show as well as the orchestra,
Kim Raines Colton will handle the Choreography, our Technical Director
is John Rose-Caren, and the set consultant is Phil Miller.
