Press Release:
In 1925 John Scopes, a local biology teacher in Tennessee was arrested for breaking a law that forbid the teaching of evolution in a public school. The issue at stake is whether the state could forbid the teaching of any science that appeared to contradict the Bible, an issue that has remained a bitter source of controversy to this day.
At 8 PM April 7th, 8th and 9th, and at 2 PM April 10th, the First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland will present Inherit the Wind, that classic 1950’s dramatization of what became known as “The Monkey Trial” that pitted William Jennings Bryan in defense of that strict law against Clarence Darrow, a proponent of free thinking.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students and may be purchased online at www.firstbaptistcleveland.org, or by calling the church office at 216-932-7480. The church is located at 3630 Fairmount Boulevard at Eaton Road in Shaker Heights.
