Brecksville Theater On The Square continues its 37th season with a twist!

For the first time in its history, BTOTS will present two one act operas: The Telephone and Edison Invents. The two will be performed together on May 20th-21st, 2011.

Directed by Matty Sayre, and music directed by Angela Bruzina, these performances will bring historical opera to life on the Brecksville stage in this bicentennial year of celebration.

Edison Invents involves a solo baritone playing the elder Thomas Edison, recounting his life, ultimately being transformed into his youth. Written by Robert S. Cohen (music) and Herschel Garfein (libretto), this opera made its debut in 2005.

The Telephone, written by Gian Carlo Menotti in 1947, is sung by a baritone and a soprano. Ben visits Lucy's apartment to propose to her before he leaves on a trip. Lucy is so preoccupied by multiple long telephone conversations, Ben misses his chance. He even unsuccessfully attempts to cut the telephone cord. When he must depart, he makes one last attempt to reach Lucy...by phone! She accepts his proposal in a happy ending.

The one acts will be presented back-to-back beginning at 7:30, with a brief intermission.
All performances will be held at the historic Old Town Hall Theater on Public Square in Brecksville, at the corner of State Routes 21 & 82. The theater is handicapped accessible.

There is no charge for these performances. The audience needs only to bring its imagination!
