[NEohioPAL] VERB BALLETS Opens DanceWorks '11 at CPT TONIGHT!

Cleveland Public Theater's Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan is proud to announce DanceWorks '11, a showcase for contemporary dance featuring six area companies performing from May 5 to June 5 in CPT's Gordon Square Theatre.
DanceWorks '11 will feature the following companies:

May 5 - 7
Verb Ballets
Fresh Inventions
Dr. Margaret Carlson, Director
Cleveland's National Repertory Dance Company will premiere Fresh Inventions, featuring Northeast Ohio choreographers, composers, musicians, sculptors and dancers. Tapping into their creativity, these talented artists are put to the test with finite time in the rehearsal studio. Choreographers include Artist-in-Residence Terence Greene, Erin Conway Lewis, Antwon Duncan, Stephanie Krise and Brian Murphy, along with lighting designer Trad A Burns.
Note:  Verb Ballets will perform Thursday through Saturday, with no matinee on Sunday.

Inlet Dance Theatre
Inlet Dance Theatre in Concert
Bill Wade, Director
In celebration of their 10th Anniversary, Inlet Dance Theatre will present a world premiere of a new work by Artistic Director/Founder Bill Wade based on imagery of the four elements: wind, water, earth and fire. The company will also remount past favorites including Memoriate and Dream of Sleeping. Inlet's performances are powerful, athletic and theatrical. Come see how Inlet is "using dance to further people!"

Antaeus Dance
Prospect & Refuge
Joan Meggitt, Artistic Director
Antaeus Dance premieres Prospect & Refuge, a captivating performance that explores the confluence of the infinite - prospect - and the intimate - refuge.  Collaborators Joan Meggitt and Doug Lodge revel in the immediacy of human contact, utilize the body as active landscape and transplant the dancers into lush environments and desolate locations.  The performance features new music by composer Bill Sallak and a series of original films by Cynthia Penter.

May 26 - 29
Double-Edge Dance
Etched in Motion

Double-Edge Dance will showcase Etched in Motion, choreographic intrigues teetering on the brink of emotional breakdowns or breakthroughs. Radella, in close collaboration with co-founder and composer Ross Feller, choreographed the Double-Edge works. Samantha Beckerman, Shaina Cantino, Matt Davis and Radella will premiere four pieces. Matthew Thornton, former member and current guest teacher for the Pilobolus Dance Theatre will perform Laden in collaboration with textile artist Rebecca Cross. Double-Edge Dance will perform a double bill with Greene/Medcalf Movement Project.

Greene/Medcalf Movement Project
The Beginning

The Beginning is a collection of existing and new solos and duets by local and national choreographers performed by the Greene/Medcalf Movement Project. The vision for this project is to create, commission and perform new and thought- provoking contemporary solos and duets that aim to push the boundaries of dance.  In addition to Medcalf and Greene, choreographers on the program include Lisa K. Lock and Troy McCarty.

Mikaela Clark & Mackenzie Clevenger
Without Words...Moving Against the Sex Trade

Without Words...Moving Against the Sex Trade is an evocative multimedia dance performance created to inspire audiences to take action on behalf of those enslaved by the global sex trade. This presentation features a creative collaboration of local dancers, cinematographers, musicians and visual artists that combine to serve as a visible force for the oppressed.
