DOBAMA Theatre ­ Audition Notice

A World Premiere New Play by George Brant

Play synopsis:  A teenager discovers the real reason her mother pulled her
out of high school and moved the two of them to Alaska:  mom plans to
assassinate a certain rogue Presidential candidate.  A dark comedy about
murder, motherhood and moose.
 
Characters:  
Deb Marshall ­ mid to late-40¹s, a divorced suburban mom who has reimagined
herself as a righteous Liberal avenger following the death of her activist
mother. 
Hannah Marshall ­ 17, Deb¹s daughter, has a hostile, ³whatever² outer shell
that masks a sensitive and intelligent interior.   Good sense of humor,
practical, resourceful.
Laurel Halen ­ 18, daughter of Alaska¹s most famous politician.  Sweet, but
not the brightest bulb.
 
Production dates:  September 9 ­ October 2, 2011
 
Audition:  Readings from the sides.  Sides will be emailed upon request.

AEA contracts:  There is 1 AEA Contract available for this production.  (AEA
contracts are based on the Special Appearance Agreement).  Non-AEA Contracts
will pay $450 each.

Playwright¹s Biography
George Brant¹s plays include Elephant¹s Graveyard, Any Other Name, The
Mourners¹ Bench, Three Voyages of the Lobotomobile, Defiant, Dark Room, Good
on Paper, Ashes, NOK, The Lonesome Hoboes, One Hand Clapping, The Royal
Historian of Oz, Lovely Letters, Three Men in a Boat, Borglum! The Mount
Rushmore Musical, Tights on a Wire and Night of the Mime.
 
His work has been produced and developed by Trinity Repertory Company, the
Kennedy Center, the Cleveland Play House, the Playwrights Foundation, Dobama
Theatre, The Playwrights¹ Center, WordBRIDGE Playwright¹s Lab, Equity
Library Theatre, Premiere Stages, Florida Studio Theatre, Trustus Theatre,
Elemental Theatre Collective, Balagan Theatre, the Drama League, the Disney
Channel, Factory Theatre, Debutantes and Vagabonds, StreetSigns Theatre
Company, and zeppo theater company, among others.
 
His script Elephant¹s Graveyard was awarded the David Mark Cohen National
Playwriting Award from the Kennedy Center and the Keene Prize for
Literature.  He has received writing fellowships from the James A. Michener
Center for Writers, the MacDowell Colony, the Djerassi Resident Artists
Program and the Blue Mountain Center as well as commissions from Dobama
Theatre and Theatre 4. George received his Masters in Writing from the
University of Texas at Austin and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.  His
scripts are published by Samuel French, Smith & Kraus, and Broadway Play
Publishing.
