Ohio Shakespeare Festival Prepares 10th Anniversary Summer Season

Ohio Shakespeare Festival is performing for the tenth summer at beautiful
Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron.  Following upon the success of last
season’s The History of King Lear, OSF will present two more of William
Shakespeare’s more rarely-performed works, the merry comedy Love’s Labours
Lost, along with The Tragedy of King Richard III.

 

Love’s Labours Lost will preview on July 7, open July 8 and run through July
23.  Richard III will preview on July 28, open July 29, and perform through
August 14.  Performances are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at
8pm, with a Greenshow of songs, dances and skits performed by the younger
Company members each evening at 7:30.  Stan Hywet’s grounds open at 6pm for
picnicking in a wide variety of scenic locations, and concessions are
available.

 

Love’s Labours Lost is the tale of the King of Navarre and his men, who take
an oath to abstain from the company of women in order to do nothing but
study, fast, and become great scholars.  Naturally, the beautiful Princess
of France chooses this moment to visit, bringing her lovely courtiers, and
all at the court break their oaths while trying to conceal their actions
from one another.  Love’s Labours Lost features favorite OSF Company members
Lara Mielcarek and Eric Lualdi as the Princess and King.  In his years with
OSF, Lualdi has appeared in many roles including Mercutio (Romeo & Juliet),
Lysander (Midsummer), Trinculo (Tempest), and Edmund (Lear.)  Ms. Mielcarek
portrayed last season’s Kate (Shrew) as well as, in previous seasons,
Ophelia (Hamlet), Emilia (Othello), and Julia (Two Gents).  Rounding out the
company are King’s men Andrew Cruse, Joe Pine and Jeremy Jenkins, with the
Princess’s ladies played by Tess Burgler, Holly Humes and Olivia Scicolone.
Ernie González returns from Second City in Chicago to play Costard, the
clown, and Artistic Director Terry Burgler is featured as “the buffoon” Don
Adriano.  Richard III will also feature Burgler in the title role, as
England’s Machiavellian monarch.

 

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is located at 714 N. Portage Path in Akron.
Tickets are $30 for reserved seating (the first 100 seats closest to the
stage), or $25 for festival (open) seating.  Student tickets are $15, and
further discounts on adult tickets are available for OSF and Stan Hywet
