Course Description: This critical study of selected dramatic 
masterpieces, selected from ancient Greek to present works, clarifies 
the nature and major achievements of dramatic art. Students will also 
examine the changes in theater structures, staging techniques, and 
costuming from within their historical context.

Instructor:J. R. Simons is a long-time member of the Cleveland 
entertainment community.He has directed productions for Sandstone Summer 
Theatre, Lorain County Community College, Avon High School, Elyria 
Summer Theatre Association, Aurora Community Theatre, Huntington 
Playhouse, Amherst Steele High School, and Elyria High School.A 
consummate theatre practitioner, Mr. Simons has also worked as a set and 
lighting designer, technical director, and stage technician for a 
variety of theatres.He has owned and managed The Jovialities 
Entertainment Co., Ltd. since 1996 and has presented high quality live, 
interactive, improvisational murder mysteries all over Northern Ohio for 
years.He holds two degrees in Theatre (BFA and MA) from Kent State 
University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Ashland University.
