Heads Up Productions is performing Martin McDonagh’s The Pillowman at
the University of Akron’s Daum Theater in Kolbe Hall. Performances
are Thursday, August 4th through Saturday, August 6th at 8 pm and
Sunday, August 7th at 2 pm. Tickets are $5 and available at the
door. Reservations can be made online or by calling 330.990.5138.
Ben Brantley from the New York Times called The Pillowman, “Energizing…
A blindingly bright black comedy.” The play tells the tale of
Katurian, a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state, who is being
interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their
similarities to a series of brutal child murders. This production is
an unflinching examination of the purpose of art and the nature of
artistic responsibility.
Daring to explore new techniques, Heads Up is creating this show using
The Method of Physical Actions. The Method of Physical Actions was
developed by Stanislavski, the father of modern acting technique, to
enable actors to live truthfully onstage.
This technique helps the actors to create startling, immediate
performances that sizzle in the summer heat. This production also
marks Heads Up’s journey into mask work.
The ensemble includes:
Amy Spencer from Cuyahoga Falls, OH
Tyler Hodges from Ashland, OH
Kim Woodworth from Aurora, OH
Brian Jackson from Akron, OH
TJ Jozsa from Stow, OH
Rosilyn Jentner from Akron, OH
Antonia Villalon from Sandusky, OH
Director: Benjamin Rexroad, Artistic Director of Heads Up, from Akron,
OH
Stage Manager: Dan Ward from Akron, OH
