Cesear’s Forum opens Joanna McClelland Glass’ TRYING this weekend.
Cesear’s Forum will open Joanna McClelland Glass’ TRYING this weekend
at Kennedy’s Down Under, PlayhouseSquare, Cleveland, Ohio. The semi-autobiographical
play concerns former New Deal Attorney General, Judge Francis Biddle and his latest
secretary (one of many), the twenty-five year old Sarah Schorr. As he puts it, "we can't
help but find each other extremely trying." The dialog is both acerbic and engaging.
Glenn Colerider, a company favorite and veteran actor, portrays the frail, cantankerous
Biddle and Tricia Bestic the more reactive and efficient secretary (an adaptation of the
Playwright herself who was, indeed, Biddle’s last secretary). Tricia Bestic, in her
Cesear’s Forum debut , is no stranger to PlayhouseSquare audiences where she appeared
in Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Robert’s I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW
CHANGE, Two “Musical Journeys;” Dorothy Marcic’s RESPECT and Laurie Frey’s
UNBEATABLE, and in the ninth incarnation of Gerard Alessandrini’s musical revue
parody, FORBIDDEN BROADWAY: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT. Ms. Bestic is
teaching and completing her MFA in acting at Kent State University, where her onstage
performances include Caryl Churchill’s CLOUD NINE and the Dale Wasserman stage
adaptation of Ken Kesey’s ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST.
The intersection of youth and age informs many of Joanna McClelland Glass’ plays.
Biddle's awareness of declining health and demise are woven into the script but Ms. Glass
includes her own, or rather, Sarah’s personal crises and ambitions in counter contrast.
Joanna McClelland Glass’ TRYING, Fri. & Sat. at 8 pm, Nov. 4th thru Dec. 10th, Sunday
Matinée, Nov. 20th at 3 pm. All seats $15. Performances at Kennedy’s Down Under,
PlayhouseSquare, 1501 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland. Call 216-241-6000 or
